Last night Allyson, Max and I were in a car accident returning home from an amazing wedding and reunion of sorts that we attended over the Holiday Weekend. Allyson was driving down a hill on I-68 at about 70 miles an hour (the speed limit in WV) and lost control of our car when she swerved out of the right lane to avoid a deer carcass. The car smacked against the divider and was knocked back into the right lane on a 45 degree angle from the shoulder of the road.
Max was sleeping at the time but the impact of the crash and the screaming of my wife woke him up and he started to cry. At that point I got out of the car and told Allyson to drive to the shoulder so we could get the the car off of the highway, but it wouldn't drive because of damage to the fender and the left front tire. I then tried to push it off the road, but that didn't work either. Allyson then told me to grab Max and get him out of the car and then she tried to get out, but her door wouldn't open because there was some damage there too. She unbuckled her seat belt and got out through the passenger side. I think some of us might have been in shock at this point.
At least two people saw the accident take place (from a safe distance) and pulled over to help us out. Nice folks out here in West Virginia... I eventually got into the car and was able to pull it off to the side of the road. A WV State Trooper showed up about 20 minutes later and called a tow truck and we waited with him in his cruiser for another 30 minutes or so.
After the tow truck guy came we found out there was enough damage done to the car that it had to be towed and because yesterday was a holiday there wasn't anyplace to get our car fixed. The State Trooper then took us to a hotel at the next exit and 24 hours later, hear I sit sipping a delicious cup of hot chocolate while I type on a computer provided by the friendly folks at the Holiday Inn.
I'm not exactly sure why, but for some strange reason I can't sleep tonight. Either I'm just starting to process my thoughts and feelings or I had too much unsweetened ice tea with my dinner.
I'm completely amazed and grateful that the three of us walked away from this thing unscathed and for the most part our beautiful gray Ford Focus is completely intact. Just another example of why you can never go wrong with an American made car.
I guess I'll go back upstairs and watch my wife and son peacefully sleep for a little while. I'll catch up with all of you real soon.
Update:
It seems that I slightly miscalculated the damage that our beloved Focus received crashing into the guard rail at 75 miles per hour on Sunday night and as a result we're still here in Morgantown on Wednesday.

Busiest Month EVER
This month has been the busiest month of my life. And it all started last month when we were in NJ. Then the first weekend of May I was in NJ for the bachelor party. This past weekend Allyson went into the hospital for a minor medical procedure and Sunday was Mother's Day. Busy. Next weekend work is moving to a new building and there's a small chance that I might have to actually work on the weekend. And finally on Memorial Day weekend we have a wedding to attend in the lovely state of West Virginia, which incidentally is open for business.
Sprinkled in through all of this madness, TV is trying desperately to win back my affection by showing as many first run episodes of all of my favorite shows as they can, like Smallville, The Office, The Big Bang Theory and Bonanza.
And of course there's also the kid. The kid is growing in leaps and bounds and pretty soon he'll be flying, but for right now he's trying really hard to walk, chew his food, talk, play. He starts swimming lessons on the 27th. Diaper Dip is what they call it, but I plan on throwing him in the pool and seeing how he does on his own.
Now please enjoy this video. It's about three or four weeks old.

Jet lag

I know some of you must be wondering where I've been for the past few days or so... I'm just now starting to feel normal from my trip to Atlantic City, New Jersey. I got in on Monday, but I've been battling a sever case of jet lag. Those two hour flights can be such a bitch.
On my flight out to NJ there were only about 15 people on the plane so we got treated really well by the flight attendant. Two cups of coffee and a blueberry muffin wannabe. Now that's what I call fantastic service! I probably could have had a nice ice cold half a cup of coke too. I'm also 99.9 percent sure that I could have joined the mile high club with the stewardess.
I then went to a friend's house and we drove down to the shore on the Garden State Parkway. There was comradery, talk, food and tunes playing in the car.

Once we entered AC though, I quickly removed my bible from my back pocket and held on to it for dear life until the weekend was over. On the first night we went to a couple of casinos. Well, they did. I stood outside of the casino and pleaded with the group of miscreants not to go in the den of filth and degradation. While they were inside studying the poker and roulette tables and the skanky, slutty, casino whores, I was outside reading scripture and marveling at the Lord's magnificent art. Specifically, the Atlantic Ocean. Too bad I didn't bring my fishing pole.
The highlight of the weekend for me was getting to read the priestly benediction during meal times.
The flight home was delayed and I didn't even board the plane until 8:00 PM instead of 6:05 like the ticket said I would. Work was rough on Sunday night/Monday morning. All that meditating and praying I did for my friends took a lot out of me, but I think I'm back to normal now.
Oh and I'm about 99.8 percent sure that I could have joined the mile high club with the stewardess on the return flight. I'm not sure though, because all I got from her were two measly bags of peanuts and half a cup of coke that wasn't even that cold. Still, I'm pretty sure she wanted me.
