Countdown

First of all, I had to beat the Birdman to this post, but I'm sure at some point closer to December 25th he'll have his own take on this movie. Love Actually is the best Christmas movie to come out since A Christmas story. A Christmas story came out in 1983, and Love Actually came out in 2003. For those of you who don't have a calculator handy, that's 20 years folks. A long time in the life span of we human beings. If you have not seen this movie yet, get out of your cave and rent it. It's a master piece.

Generally speaking I don't have much use for Hugh Grant, but I liked him a lot in this movie. What was your favorite story line in this epic? Really all of the stories are good in Love Actually. I made the mistake of renting this movie out, free of charge, to some good friends of ours about 6 months ago. I doubt that they have watched it yet, and time is running out for them. I need this movie back ASAP! I don't want to have to kill them so they had better return it immediately.

That's really all I'm going to say about Love Actually, because I don't want to spoil anything for those of you that have not seen it yet. There will be a quiz on December 26th so make sure that you're prepared.

I'm in a really good mood today, I'm not even sure why. I just am. I am enjoying all the new friends that have been coming to the Log lately. It's been really fun getting to know ya'all. Something I've been thinking about lately is how easy it is to become desensitized during this time of the year. With all the commercials, movies, music, and Corky ramming this holiday down your throat, I can kind of understand how it could happen. Not for me gang. I love this holiday and by the end of this glorious month you will understand why. From what I can tell, most of you people are Christmas freaks too, and If you're not Corky and company will crack you. That's what we're here for.

The Choir: Gee Corky, what are we going to do today?

Corky: Same thing we do every day, try to take over the world.

I love it! A guy who actually LIKES a "chick flick" AND a quote from "Pinky and the brain"! You are my kind of guy.
At Christmas time, I like "Holiday Inn", the old black-and-white.
Anyway, thanks for your fun comments on my HNT post.

I don't know, the Star Trek and Battlestar Gallactica stuff was cool. Yesterday you said you like to sing and today you're promoting a movie with Hugh grant in it. I have never seen Love Actually and have been completely scared off by the title. I will respect your opinions though.

I forgot about that movie and will definitely rent it. If Corky likes it, Lady K will surely like it, too.

Christmas RULES. It's one of my favorite holidays.

I LOVED "Pinky and the Brain." I wish it was still on! (that's where you got your closing remarks, right?)

Look Corky, this Holiday Season stinks. For one month of the year, Americans think they are charitable and generous and jolly--then they go back to being regular assholes the rest of the time. But it is fake, it isn't a real charity or happiness, just a result of brainwashing by consumer culture and a mechanism for the retail industry to get into the black (thus black friday) and turn a profit on the year.

Moreover, this is a Christian holiday. It is not for everyone. Not for Atheists, Budhists, Muslims, or even Jews. It is exclusionary and alienating. Yes Jews have Channukah, but we all know that isn't really an important holiday, from a religous standpoint, but rather has been made culturally more significant so Jewish kids don't feel left out. I really don't see how you can celebrate this holiday season unless you accept Christ and the theory of the holy trinity. Isn't that what Christmas is, Christ's birthday? Well, I choose not to belive in the virgin birth. (Or Superman or the Easter Bunny or any other fiction.)

Lastly, Christmas movies and songs are corny.

The only reason I am able to stay sane during this time of year is that it is the peak of NFL season. Otherwise, all hope would be lost.

Grumbler, Grumbler...this from the guy who didn't believe the donut hole folks were Nazis. Tsk, tsk.

Seriously, though Corks, I'm a Jew (and an atheist) and I like Christmas. I love the classic Christmas songs (but hate 99.999% of the remakes by modern pop artists), and I love love love great Christmas movies. That said, you're just dead wrong on Love Actually. It's a good movie, not a great one. About a Boy is actually much, much better. And for my money, the best Christmas movie since A Christmas Story has GOT to be Scrooged.

You know what they say...there's no accounting for taste. Or, in the Grumbler's case, opinions are a lot like assholes: everybody's got one, and everyone thinks their's don't smell like sh*t.

Or something like that.

Someone needs a visit from Jacob Marley. I used to feel the same way about Christmas as you, but then I spent one or two Christmases up on Kim Jong Ramone's roof. I also spent a couple of Christmases with Him, drinking Hennesy and eating Corn beef hash. I also watched the Craig's go to town on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day for many, many years. In all of these instances I felt nothing but genuine love and compassion and maybe a serious buzz sometimes. Most people I spent/spend this holiday with do not believe in god but they do believe in the spirit of the holiday, and so do I.

Your taste is films is second to none Corky. "Love Actually" is one of my favorite movies. You're a softy.

I'm really glad I found the log, or the log found me. OK, I'm gonna have to start calling this place something else because the log references are getting out of hand. Plus is really gets Lady off when you say "log".

Love Actually is a great movie - love it! My brother was actually inspired to propose to his girlfriend right after they saw it, instead of doing whatever else he had planned.

Pinky & the brain was a great cartoon, too.

Corky did steal my thunder but I will probably put up a post anyway. This is one of the best movies of all time. BETTER than About A Boy which was one of the best movies that came out in 2002.
Grumbler stop trying to ruin my holiday with talk of religion.

I would have to say my favorite story line is the kid and his school boy crush in the liam neeson story line. Damn, but Colin Ferth's is so good and there's....
crap!

I love the soundtrack for this movie. It really is a cute film. I think of it, though, as a curl-up-on-couch with gal pals type movie (no, not the MAN SHOW pillow fight juggie scenario...more the ladies with lots of cats and wine version).

Hugh Grant is so dreamy...
Who cares if he has a thing for transvestite prostitutes... I still adore him.
Maybe it's the accent.

Sigh....
