Snow Day

It's snowing outside which essentially means that Winter begins and ends today (at least where I live). The Groundhog is not going to see his shadow. That's how it works right? Too bad. I was looking forward to six more weeks of winter. I love snow. I probably should have thrown a stick of dynamite in the little bastards hole this morning.

I could sit her and write a post about how much I hate drivers that go into full blown panic attacks over the sight of a single snow flake. I could also bitch and moan ad nauseam about the fact that I live in a place where plowing isn't factored into the city's budget. But fuck that. I'm in a good mood today and like I said, I love snow.

When I discovered that it was snowing outside my biological instincts kicked in. I got dressed in layers, grabbed a football and headed outside to collect the following personnel: The Apologist, Willsix, Kim Jong Ramone, The Birdman, and any other neighborhood miscreant I could dig out of a snow bank along the way. Along the way I found two Healy's, a Marshall, a Kelly and 11 other random nameless faceless kids.

We went to Hillside Elementary School and played football for at least 4 hours. By the end of the game we were soaked and cold. We never dressed appropriately for snow, but this delusion is taking place during the mid eighty's, and things were different back then sony. The game was amazing! The final score was 77 to 3. My team won of course.

After the game we dropped the miscreants back into the snow banks we found them in, and headed over to The Birdman's house to warm up, drink hot chocolate and draw superheroes for a roll playing game that we liked to play. (I've got a thick black notebook full of these drawings, and I will post those pictures some day). If it snows again tomorrow we might go and shovel some driveways for money. I'm sure some of these fucks will want to go sledding at some point. If they twist my arm hard enough I might cave in and go with them.

Out here in the real world it only snowed a couple of inches. Allyson and I are getting our taxes done today. We're also going to continue getting ready for the arival of Corky Jr. Shit... we might even take down the Christmas tree today. Do you think the Doctor would give us permission to go sledding? It's week 17 of the pregnancy. She should be strong enough to handle a good hill at blinding speeds. Right?

No sledding, Cap'n.
She can film YOU sledding at insane speeds, so when you die ala Sonny Bono, she'll have a video to show Corky Jr what a cool dad he/she had.

It's not the hill that's a challenge, it's the tree at the bottom of it. LOL

Man, I remember the good old days when it would actually snow here when I was a kid. It doesn't snow nearly as much as it used to. Anyway, we would go play football wearing all the clothing we could possibly put on. I remember that I could barely get my hands close enough together to actually catch the football. LOL

Two of my favorite things:
1.) watching my 10-year old lab turn into a puppy when he's playing in the snow.
2.) shoveling my sidewalk.

Snow? What's that. If it snowed here in the vallys of Southern California, life would literally come to an end until the snow melted 6 minutes later.

Outside snow football RULES! I used to get pummeled by my brothers' friends all the time. Then I'd just get up, go in, get warm, and take the horse out. SO peaceful.

NO sledding for Al! Then again, if it's not too "hilly and bumpy," there shouldn't be a problem. But I don't know if I'd take any chances there...

You are making me SOOOOO homesick with that snow pic. Which river is that? Or is it just a creek?

I remember those games well, I regulary gained 400 yards on the ground and had close to 50 catches.
I may have enjoyed when we played guns in the snow slightly more. Not much different: an assorted cast of background players, us main characters, not apropriately dressed.....4 hours later we were in damp long johns coming up with Super Heroes with the distinct smell that can only come from piles of wet clothes hung over every radiator in the house, wafting through the air.

The only difference there is that sometimes we got very ambitious and actually tried to "write" the frost bite into the story and make fires in the middle of the woods...intead of going home to our warm houses. Just to clear up how absurd we were for the people that didn't grow up with us- we are suburban kids. We weren't REALLY in the middle of the woods building fires. For us, the middle of the woods meant still surrounded on all sides by houses of people who didn't appreciate a bunch of kids building fires in what they saw as the trees that lined their yard. For us, it was a dense forrest that needed to be flushed of "the bad guys".

Oh yeah,
And long live Owl Man and Nature Boy!

I had the best team of heroes EVER.

I still have ideas in my head that have never been put down on paper for some cool super villians.

I adored the snow the three years we lived in Germany.

Nothing like it! :)

Don't ask, don't tell... tape a fluffy pillow to her front and her back and send her down the mountain! The doctor doesn't need to know.

Keep that girl off the sled, Corky. Besides, we don't get any real snow in River City, just ice and "2 hour delays"!!! Over here in Indiana, where the hills are shut down with the barest of snows, we still have that all-time teacher's favorite: SNOW DAYS!!!!
