The Never Ending Battle

I can no longer use excuse number: 374 as a reason not to go to the gym. Over the weekend Allyson and I learned that our gym offers free daycare for all of its members who want to work out. Yesterday we took Jr to the gym daycare and we both worked out for 50 minutes. I did some light weight lifting and then walked for a half hour. Allyson walked for close to an hour. I'm already sore but I feel great mentally and physically.

2007, or The Year Of Captain Corky has been amazing so far. My son was born, I quit chewing tobacco, my beloved Colts won the Superbowl (surely a sign from God that it was going to be a great year for Corky, kind of like last last year when God sent me a sign by having my beloved Steelers win the Super Bowl in 2006, The year of Captain Corky). But I've got to get my weight under control!!! This is the next big battle I'm going to engage in. Over the past 11 years I've had limited success in losing weight off and on, but I won't be fooled again!

Without getting into a whole lot of details, along time ago I used to be in really good shape. I was able to leap tall buildings in a single bound, and I could lift at least 100 times my own weight, just like the common ant can, for example. My goal is to get in really good shape for the next Iron Man contest that comes through Louisville Kentucky or at least lose 30 pounds. One of the other, you know me I'm not particular.

However, this thought did cross my mind:

Today I could bring Jr to the Gym and pretend that I was going to work out and then sneak out the back door and go catch a movie. Then tomorrow after I drop Jr off at the gym I'll go bowling. My 8, 10 split needs a little work. And finally on Friday I'll go for a nice lunch downtown, and maybe even have a cocktail or two. By Sunday I should be ready to start seriously working out.

I'm first! I'm first!!! YAYA this has to be history!!!

I understand how you feel, we attend the gym and of course it's a never ending struggle.

Best of luck to you... I'm sure you'll be fine!

Now that the pressure of being first is off, I can suggest why not wear your "Superman" costume to the gym? That would be fun.

What a wonderful social smile from The Boy Wonder!

YOU are a mess my friend, but I will give you the credit for such a great idea. Who woulda thunk it? FREE babysitting?? You are a genius.

fiwa said...

But could you really look into that sweet face, the face of CCjr, who is trusting you to go and work on your muscles for fighting for truth, justice and the 'merican way, and then go have a cocktail?! Dude, he expects you to hold up your half of the crime fighting partnership!

M said...

You're SO lucky to have that sweet baby to hold awhile longer..one of my babies that looked like that started his senior year of high school today and I am a mushy mess! Smell his baby wonderfulness one more time!!

Anonymous said...

that's it, ease into it . . . you don't wanna overdo it the first week. otherwise you'll never go back! that free babysitting thing is a pretty sweet deal.

I love the baby smile! What a cutie!

I LOVE going to the gym.. the treadmill and I are good friends.

Good luck! I've been working on the weight thing too.

OK how about throwing you a hardball to guilt you into dropping a few lbs?

Look at that sweet little face and know you MUST remain healthy so you can play with him and be there for him through his growing years?

Fat Dads have a hard time shooting hoops, running bases, and tackling.

*smiles, ... I'll root for you!

Biddie said...

LOL. You got it all worked out!
I used to get daycare at the mall for Kayla and Jessica and then away to a movie...Good times...
I swear, that kid is sooo cute. Seeing his smile makes my day :)

katy said...

huh you not asked me but i would babysit for free!
go work out corky because in a few years you will need to be fit to keep up with junior!

Heidi the Hick said...

You know, I'd say bowling counts as physical exercise, wouldn't you????

Metal Mark said...

That sounds like something Fred Flintstone would do.

Jenny! said...

Awwwww, he is so cute! I love their toothless happy smile! So cute!

Good luck wiht the weight duded! Why don't you take Max for walks...around town...then he gets out and starts experiencing the world and you get excersize!

When I saw the title, my first thought was, oh it's got to be about diaper changing.

That is the cutest smile ever.

Guilty Secret said...

Wow, free care at the gym? That is good news.

Now, no slacking, because that little cutie of yours is going to want to play football (I mean soccer, of course!) before you know it and you need to keep up with him.

Man, he's beautiful :)

Gina said...

I can't tell you how many times I've been tempted to drop the kid at our gym-care and go somewhere and have an iced tea.

C'mon, let's all ditch the gym together!

Webmiztris said...

I think that you should run with that free babysitting deal! I wonder how many parents really do drop off their kids and run out the fire exit door to go run some errands or something...lol! very sneaky. i like it. ;)

willSIX said...

I thought you were a Bills fan? What the heck?

Oh, and cute picture.

Terri said...

forget the stories and the plans for daycare so you can do whatever the heck you want....I LOVE THE PICTURE!!! What a cutie! :o)

See this is what happens, you cease to exist as Captain Corky and now are only known as Max's dad. (but it's a wonderful thing)

Jay said...

Definitely take advantage of the free baby sitting.

I found that when I went ahead and dropped the gym membership all the pressure was off. And I didn't feel guilty for not going to the gym since I was no longer a member.

MrRyanO said...

Sneaking out of the gym is an excellent plan for free day care! I may have to suggest this to Mrs. RockDog...do you think they'd notice if we "worked out" for 8-9 hours a day???

captain corky said...

Aunt Jackie: I never wear the suit to the gym. I wouldn't want to make all the other freaks jealous.

Sunshine: Whoever said Kentucky wasn't good for anything? ;)

Peggy: He smiles a lot these days. It's the best. :)

Laurasia: Thank you for the compliment. If you told me I was a really normal guy I would probably jump out of a window or something. ;)

Fiwa: You make a very valid point. No cocktails while I'm on the clock. ;)

captain corky said...

M: Hang in there Mom. ;) I'll smell him and give him a kiss for you.

Emmeline: I think I overdid it yesterday by just walking in. I am so sore today.

Blancodeviosa: No because they're scared that it would draw too much of a crowd. I'm a very popular guy ya know.

Hoosiergirl5: Thanks. I love when he smile too. I also like going to the gym, sort of. ;)

Nancy: A nice little dose of guilt always does the trick.

PS All of a sudden I have an urge to call you.

Mx said...

Beware the kryptonite smooties in the gym beverage bar.. That's all I'm gonna say

captain corky said...

Biddie: Al least I pretend I do. ;) Have a great time tonight.

Her Indoors: You can watch him anytime. Especially when I head out to the pubs. ;)

Heidi: Bowling counts as exercise, recreation and therapy.

Metal Mark: Me and Rubble, Kramden, Norton and Flintstone have a lot in common! I've based my life on those guys.

Jenny: He really is. Your guys is really cute too.

A walk sounds like a good idea. I think I'll go for one tomorrow... Seriously when it cools down a bit I plan on going to the park often with the kid.

captain corky said...

Furiousball: That too, and thanks Pal.

Guilty Secret: Thanks! And of course I know what you really meant to say is that Jr is going to wanna play American football. He already told me so. ;)

Gina: Good idea! I'll meet you for an Iced tea and only ask them to put a little vodka in it. ;)

Webmiztris: I bet a lot do. This is Kentucky, a lot of shady shit goes down here. LOL

Willsix: The Bills? Who are they??? LOL

captain corky said...

Terri: As long as it's Max who is stealing the show it's ok. ;)

Jay: When I driver through Arkansas some day, I may stop over and leave Jr with you for the afternoon so I can check out the local strip joint. Hope you don't mind.

Rockdog: LOL They might after hour number 6.

Madame X: Luckily I belong to the Y and all they have is an old vending machine and a couple of crusty water fountains. ;)

Burfica said...

we were bad, when alekx and I belonged to a gym, if we worked out in the morning, we would go across the street and have breakfast at a nice little restaurant. If we went at night, we would stop at the ice cream shop on the way home. lmao

Anonymous said...

Cute little bird toy, but can you hang action figures on the handle of that baby carrier?

CRUSTY MOM-E said...

funny, I had that similar thought when I considered the exercise daycare thing as well-you know the ducking out, coffee, nails done lifestyle that I couldn't probably stand it if I had it.

I hope the working out helps..but don't put too much pressure on yourself. You're not supposed to loose more weight than your wife and guys always loose weight faster..THUS your excuse NOT to go:
A-you enjoy it more, you go (talking to your wife, Allyson)

b-I'll stay home with Corky Jr-some kid in the daycare the other day tried sneezing kryptonite on him

c-we won't argue if you've lost all your babyweight and I'm still at my weight..but If I lose more than you quicker, you'll get frustrated, throw in the towel, and well,

d-crusty says so. :)
hahah..Just kidding..just do what your wife wants you to do!! :)

Always,
Crusty~

It takes a truly evilmind to consider dropping your child at the gym daycare to go see a movie.

Well done.

Big Pissy said...

I want to see photographic evidence of you wearing that leotard to the gym! *LOL*

LOVE that picture of Corky Jr! What a cute smile! :)

I've been trying to convince myself to go to the gym today - but instead i decided to visit your site - guess I made the right decision!!

You're sore from WALKING??? That is funny... It's a good thing they offer daycare at your gum... LOL.

Molly said...

Corky Jr is more handsome than ever and so alert. I may not be the best influence. I am thinking the plan to sneak out the back door is topnotch. But as you are a dedicated superhero, you probably went for the workout. Go Corky go.

Michael Colvin said...

I get you on the weight thing. I remember when I was thin and fit too...it sucks.

LoL at giving up chewing tobacco! Wait...that was a joke right?

Alicia said...

You can watch a movie while you run on the treadmill you pansy.
:)

Canadian flake said...

The local Y in my hometown used to offer free daycare also. It was great...but they moved the daycare right by the front door... they could see ev1 coming or going so that would have foiled your plans oh great one....back to the drawing board!!! lol

Anonymous said...

Normally I read all of the comments preceding mine, but when you are 43 in a long line of 42...oh well. So excuse me if I duplicate someone else's thoughts.

Not. You are not going to leave Corky Jr at the gym while you go off gallivanting around. (Like that word? My mom used to say it all the time and it worked for her.) Like I believe you are really going to to do that anyway. How could you really leave that beautiful smile? But good luck with the workouts!

As for the Colts...I should have guessed it. Willi is the greatest Colts fan. Aha. Kindred spirits!

Joshua said...

I hope one of these days I could be first to post a comment.

Yeah, I really need to get going to a guy myself. But I don't wanna give them money so I'm just stuck yogging on the beach.

but I'll leave you with this:
Ron Burgundy: "Oop... I almost forgot. I won't be able to make it fellas. Veronica and I trying this new fad called uh, jogging. I believe it's jogging or yogging. it might be a soft j. I'm not sure but apparently you just run for an extended period of time. It's supposed to be wild. "

I really need to watch that movie again.

Cheryl said...

While I'm waiting for you to do all that working out, I'll just look at Corky Jr. He looks like a guy who can be trusted.

info@thebabymarketplace.com said...

What's the name of your gym ... I NEED to sign up? Mine gives you these beeper things that set off an alarm if you try and leave the building! I mommyknows, I tried to go out and get my shoes out of my car and they thought I was trying dump my kid and bugger off!

Guys like you ruin all the fun for nice girls like me! *wink*

captain corky said...

Burfica: All I can say is Thank God our gym isn't located near any restaurants or I would probably have a waffle cone on my way home from the gym every day.

Leslie: I should be able to figure something out. ;)

Crustybeef: That's actually a good plan Crusty. Maybe I'll go once time for every five times that she goes to the gym. That sounds fair, right?

Willsix: I distinctly remember being a Cowboys fan in the early 90's. Just like I was a Patriots fan for most of the first half of this decade. Do you have any idea what we're supposed to be calling this decade?

[Cherry] Ride: Maybe I should shave my head bald and start referring to myself at the greatest criminal mind of all time. ;)

captain corky said...

Big Pissy: I'm sorry but that wouldn't be a good idea since I plan on running for President in 2008. ;)

TAFKAPW: You absolutely made the right choice! I hope you had a piece of cake and a cup of coffee or tea while you read blogs yesterday.

Beader: I'm more sore from weight lifting, but I think I am a little sore from walking that extra mile and a half.
;)

MJD: I think I'm going to work out again today. I don't want my arch enemy's getting any ideas. ;)

Tod: of course it was a joke... I never chewed two cans a day for 10 years. That was some redneck who lives in KY, and not Captain Corky.

captain corky said...

Alicia: Yeah, but can I bowl and drink? That's the real question. ;)

Every treadmill does have its own TV and I do watch TV Land while I'm walking. Somehow Leave it to Beaver gets funnier after the second mile.

Canadian Flake: I could always grease the palms of the daycare workers. Give each 5 bucks or something... I'm a big shot like that. ;)

Gawilli: Please don't tell anyone else that I'm not really going to leave Jr alone. I have a rep to protect. ;)

Chucky: I would give up the 60 bucks a month we pay for the gym to be able to run along the ocean. I miss the beach

captain corky said...

Cheryl: Jr can definitely be trusted, but watch out for his Daddy! ;)

Keshi: I plan on signing up for swimming lessons when he's a little older. That will be fun :)

Neroli: I like your edit. That way I can apply next week when I start again. ;)

Pink: Beer! Why didn't I think of that, I love working out after a nice refreshing 6 pack.

Whim: Thank you. I have a new plan everyday. ;)

captain corky said...

Mommyknows. The Village people once sang a song about the gym I belong to. Over there they just give us a plastic wrist band. True. LOL!

Proud father leaves baby in gym daycare and works out in same building - fine. Proud daddy leaves baby in gym daycare and slips out to movie - nah, not unless proud daddy intends to worry himself slim. Tell the truth, you just couldn't do that!

depending on how much it costs, i might join just to get that free time outside of the gym.

It's all well and good in the free daycare until someone brings there dirty ass kid who has scabies. That is a lovely page to get when you are sweating to death on the stair climber. "All parents please report to the daycare facility immediately" How revolting is that? Eh? I've never gone back to that gym again.

Judy said...

Good on you for getting to the gym. Wow. Free daycare! So any time parenting gets stressful, take the wee one to the gym and work out. What a fabulous double-goodie!

Cute photo of the munchkin. Don't you just love it when they laugh? Soooo wonderful. When my grandson was that age, I had longish hair. If I shook my head wildly (so that it bounced around), he would laugh hysterically. Too funny!

pilgrimchick said...

I never enjoyed the whole gym thing. I always considered it a "necessary evil." However, there has never been a movie theater or a bowling alley nearby the gyms I have patronized.

Eric: It's not bad, It's like 60 bucks a month and they have a pool and stuff.

Enemy: It's actually the Y, so it's a little better than a gym

captain corky said...

Guilty Secret: David who? ;)

Lady K: I used to love going to rock-n-bowl at midnight. That was a lot of fun. Beer, Classic Rock, and Bowling, it doesn't get any better than that. ;)

Dilling: You can borrow our kid for a couple of hours a day if you want, but not too long. ;)

Heather: Unfortunately, food is only one of many downfalls for me. ;)

Jenny: Yeah, I think both of them are going to be very successful in that department.

Jamie: Thanks! So far so good.

Tink: Let's declare 2008 as The Year of Tink!

Myutopia: Thanks! I did feel really good when I came home from the gym yesterday, but damn was I hungry. I did eat good though.

Christie: Scabies?!? Gulp!

Wizened Wizard: I love when he smiles. It makes me ridiculously happy. :)

captain corky said...

Slskenyon: The only things near our gym is dead grass and crappy condos, so I guess I'll just stay at the gym and work out.

Keshi: You know it. :)

Cazzie: I hope to be down a few pants sizes by Christmas. Just a few though. ;)

I'm with Aunt Jackie. Wear your Superman gear to the gym. That would totally rule.

Also in the vein of things that rule - that surprise of a photograph that you put in of Corky Jr. smiling at the ornament on his carrier. Oh that kid is a cutie!

That is one cute kid! I wish I were around to babysit him.

Please lose a few pounds and then let me know how you did it. I did it once with exercise and hard work, but I don't have the energy for it anymore.
