A Tree Grows in Corky's Living Room

Yep... we got a real tree this year. Gone are the days of the fake tree in our house. Not that I'm a tightwad or anything like that, but real trees are a lot cheaper than fake trees. Not only that but they look more like trees, they smell better and it makes everything all around more festive.

I think this one is a pine. We were originally going to go with a maple tree, but I couldn't find a single lot selling them...

It was about 24 degrees on Saturday night when we went to get it and it was even snowing a little. I shit you not!

Getting it home wasn't an issue at all either. The tree fit very nicely on the roof of our Ford Focus (yet another reason why I only buy Ford).

Really it was one of those nights that you see Bing Crosby having in all of those awesome black and white Christmas movies and the only thing that could have made the night better was if I had a corn cob pipe and a piano to compose, play, and sing White Christmas to my wife and son.

Now I'm Begging you to watch the video below. It's a performance from New Orleans musicians displaced from Hurricane Katrina. It's simply breathtaking. The sound starts 7 seconds in to the vid.

I thought about getting a palm tree to decorate... but then the neighbors caught me in their yard with the chainsaw.

Awesome performance!!!!

We need to buy a new fake tree, ours is falling apart.

I would do fresh but we live in a trailer and that is to much of a fire hazard.

My inlaws always do fresh and I don't know if they feel bad for the tree's or not, but the do charlie brown tree's each and every year.

Nice tree. You'll be vacuuming up pine needles in June, but it's still nice. ;-)

We have a fake tree, and it is still not up.
Yours is nice. I just hate the smell of a real tree. Plus, I am almost positive that Bumble will piss on it if we have a real one.

Funny how those real trees look a lot more like trees, isn't it??

Love the video Corky! Thank you!!

I'd love a real tree, ours is fake and lovely but tons of work to put up. Enjoy your tree!

Glad you got a real tree! I don't believe in fake ones... :/

Tink: It's probably a good idea that you decided not to. I don't know how good it would be to spend your first year of marriage in the joint. ;)

Tranq: It's an awesome tree. Max really loves it too, and he also really loves pulling ornaments off the tree. LOL!

Burfica: Better to be safe. It's also easier to hang the ornaments on a fake tree that's for sure. ;)

Furious: Not only the cats, but the kid too. LOL!

Jay: I know! Last time it just about destroyed our old vacuum cleaner.

Biddie: I love the smell of the real tree. Our cats love messing with the tree. The little bastards. ;)

Dana: Glad you enjoyed the video. I can listen to it over and over, and over and over.

Jamie: This one was a lot of work but I guess we were just in the right state of mind this time. It was a lot of fun.

Beader: I think I'm done with fake trees. We'll see how the clean up goes though. LOL

you're not allowed to make me cry at work.
nice tree. nice vid.
:)

I see a Superman and a Batman and a Jiminy Cricket on your real tree.

And Max has grown a full set of serious choppers. I would not be sticking my fingers anywhere near his mouth.

I do not see a John Travolta ornament on the tree.
It will not be a "real" tree until it has a Travolta ornament.

One of my favorite Christmas songs! Amazing performance!

Real trees are so old school. Well, they are if you're single and have to do the whole tree yourself. Mine goes up in a minute, is huge and better looking than any real tree I ever had, and Yankee Candle Mistletoe candles smell like the real thing. Just saying...

Xmas, YAY.....

Ghee how big has your child gotten. Feels like I missed too much.

How are you Al Capitan?

Have a great day.

Erika: I always find that I do a better job at work after a good cry. ;) I'm looking forward to you guys seeing it.

Leslie: Max only bites people with Chin Clefs named John. ;) I have a few Trek ornaments and a Harry Potter on the other side of the tree. Maybe I'll post a pic of that side of the tree next week. ;)

Anonymous: Travolta is playing the part of Jesus under the tree in the Nativity Scene. Alongside him are Mary, Joseph, Tom Cruise, L Ron Hubbard and Mork from Ork. ;)

Real: I really like it too and even more so after hearing that version. It's an amazing piece.

Cheryl: I love Yankee candles. Currently I have the Christmas candle along with sparkling cinnamon and Christmas Cookies (I think those are the correct names).

Etain: Great to here from you! I'm doing good. I look forward to catching up with you later today. ;)

I'm all about the real trees. My apartment building says they are a fire hazard, though.

I'll show them fire hazard...

I quite with the real trees when I discovered how much the dogs like to pee on them.
Yuck for the presents

Christmas wouldn't be complete without a giant fire hazard propped up in the living room. That being said I'm a bit jealous. This year is the first in a long time we went with a fake tree. The smell is sorely missed.

Cate Subrosa said...

We've only ever had real trees for the same reason - they look more like trees.

captain corky said...

Princess: Exactly! What do apartment buildings know from anyways?

Alekx: True. My cats are very fond of the tree. They're especially fond of the tree skirt.

Jay: We're only going to keep it up for a couple of weeks and I water it ever other day. Hell, I take better care of it then I do the cats.

Cate: Yeah but this year's tree is going to be a little more special for you. ;)

We always had real trees when my girls were little.

Now....we don't even put one up. We just go to Atlanta to the oldest daughter's house.

She puts up at least 2 trees. ;-)

beautiful version of that song...thank you!

Mmm i love the smell of real trees at christmas!

Well, I say you can't beat the damp smell you get from an artificial that's spent a year stored in the garage.
