Nesting

For me painting a room top to bottom is as easy as it is for most people to mop a kitchen floor. I was a painter once upon a time, and I've spent a lot of time making O.P.P (other people's property) look good. I'm not going to spend a whole lot of time painting for other people anymore. I sort of moved on from that part of my life. I still like to paint for friends and family from time to time though.

I'm off from work today and tomorrow and I'm going to be spending the majority of my time painting for a family member, my wife. As most of you know Allyson is pregnant. She went into full blown nesting mode a couple of weeks ago. She informed me that we were going to make major modifications to our apartment. Our office/spare bedroom is going to become the babies nursery. Makes sense. I also have some painting that I have to finish up in the living room and bathroom. I hate to do this kind of work on a place that we don't own, but then again we're going to be living here for one more year and it might as well look good.

I bought some supplies at the Home Depot yesterday. I have a love hate relationship with the Home Depot. The prices are great. Ladders, paint brushes, buckets and drop clothes are all priced pretty good. But the paint at Home Depot sucks. I don't understand why consumer reports likes it so much. Anybody that works with paint more than three of four times in a life time would agree with me. I also can never get out of that fucking store in under an hour, and it's not because I have a big hard-on for power tools. The check out lines are so slow! I went at 9:00 in the morning yesterday, in the dead of winter, so it wasn't too bad. But generally speaking most of the time I shop in there by the time I'm ready to leave I'm on the verge of having an aneurysm. Usually while I'm waiting for the check out person to find the sale's price for a 1.29 bucket somewhere located in isle 430.

I buy most of my paint at Porter Paints when I'm in the South. Good paint. A little expensive but much better paint to work with on a regular basis then Glidden, aka Home Depot paint. I used Grey Bisque for the living room in our apartment and Summer Lilac for the Kitchen. Allyson had a near heart attack when I told her what color I was planning to use for the kitchen, but after she saw the finished contrast between the Bisque and the Lilac she was pleasantly surprised. I never believed in accent walls until we painted one for the Birdman's mother. It turned out really good. I've also did some work for a customer who had an interior decorator pick out all the paint for their house based on the customer's artwork. It turned out amazing.

OK... I better get to work before Allyson has an aneurysm or I might just be painting at 6:26 on Sunday night.

That looks like a cat's ass sitting on your table.

The color looks good.

I also have a Love/Hate relationship with my local Home Depot along the lines of your situation.

The difference is that we have the Self Checkout system. 10 lanes of Self Checkout and 2 lanes with actual people.

Self checkout never works for me and I end up sitting there with a "Help Me I'm A Doofus" light blinking over my ehad until someone can finally come over and help me.

Plus, the thought of me checking myself out doesn't seem right unless I am getting a discount. I'd rather they work for their money. My days of running the cash register are behind me...or so I thought.

Excellent points Rockdog! I hate self checkout lines too.

Really? Would you mop my floor? There's $5 in it for you.

I have a hate-hate relationship with Home Depot. I'd like to see it one day without 45,000 people inside.

I've never thought the accent wall thing was all that great of an idea until I helped my sister paint her house. It actually does work if you use the right colors.

I hate Home Depot.

Lowes > Home Depot

Lowes had MUCH better paint than Home Depot. FYI.

I LOVE IT! Nice work, Cork.

Great colours! I have a theory that we all have a finite amount of decorating time inside us. And when it's gone it's gone and no amount of coercion will make us pick up a paintbrush. I used mine up years ago...

I like the colors.
I want to paint my room but can't decide on a color. I did paint the downstairs bathroom tho...it has a 50's theme.

I think it was a very wise choice placing that cat-tail there... It really does tie the room together! :)

I painted a few months ago...
A sage green in Cam's room, and two-toned pink in Lauren's room separated by a chair rail. It turned out great...
Now, when are you flying to Idaho to tape/texture and repaint 2000 sq ft of my house?!
I mean, we're friends, right?!

Dan: Another good point. Home Depot in the spring is almost as bad as the mall during Christmas time.

Blancodeviosa: Thanks. I don't think the cat really cares about anything but food, and sleeping. That's why we get along so well.

Jay: Welcome to the tribe.

Tuesday: I think I've been inside a Lowes twice in my life. I don't know why but I just don't do Lowes. Sears has pretty good paint though. It's made by Benjamin Moore.

Yasamin. Burn baby burn!

Tod: I think you might be right. I'm coming to the end of my rope.

KC: I would be interested in knowing what all a 50's themed bathroom looks like. Does it have a jukebox?

Jackie: That bastard cat always steals the glory.

Alicia: You catch on quick! Of course we're friends, the best of friends in fact, but all of my vacation time is tied up this year. Something about a baby.

Will you help me paint my bathroom? Pretty please?

I feel your H.D pain. I used to work there, the common joke was weither we bled orange. I did not. I was SO happy when I was able to get the hell out of that place.

I couldn't help noticing the Christmas Story ornament. I got that one this year and the crate and leg lamp last year. For some reason, the crate was out again this year and I think I bought about 5 of 'em for friends or ebay.

I don't mind being at Home Depot (can't go to Lowe's because I'm not a Jimmy Johnson fan), but when the fun shopping is done, the lines are usually hell, especially when we have the twins in tow!

I love the colours! We did three shades of yellow in our family room. And our bedroom is deep purple. Space Truckin, man. Smoke on the Water.

You should go to Jethro's blog (Git awfa mah prawpity) and read his gentle rant about Home Depot. He only posts every three months or so. It'll still be there.

Man, beautiful line in the corner there. Good steady hands. I do enjoy painting but I hate the prep and the clean up. So I don't paint much!

OHHHH and it's all Benjamin Moore for us.

Yeah, that Momma Bird, she is quite the interior decorator. She got the idea from my brother, D, and the accent walls he and his wife did are all cool. Mama had you do various shades of pink, so I never approved.

Didn't I use to have a 3 piece suit in that "lilac" color?
Damn, I am a pimp.

Tuesday-
I don't know about the paint at Lowe's,but they have good popcorn and comfy seats.

Thank you for coming to Lowe's....

Will you come paint at my house?

My husband will ONLY use Sherwin-Williams paint. He says it's the best.

For your information, I believe "Home Depot Paint" is Behr which from what I've researched is quite good. I have looked into their Premium Plus Ultra paint. It's a paint w/ primer and has two millicides (sp?) in it as well as a lifetime warranty from sun damage and the environment. Glidden is offered at a much cheaper price than Behr, and on the other end Home Depot supplies Ralph Lauren paint. While the design options for the Ralph Lauren paint is cool (they have metallics, suede, sand textured, and paint that looks like marble) it is quite expensive and truly for those that have money to waste.
