Corky's Contribution.

My weekend ends in less than 3 hours and It couldn't have gone by any faster! But it was still a good one.

Allyson thought I put the picture of the Baby's room up too soon. I didn't even realize how much more needed to be done. It's a good thing she's on top of things.

We were a half hour late to class on Saturday. Such is the story of my life. I decided to just wear a polo shirt and khakis. I was going to wear the suit but I couldn't find a pair of black socks and I didn't want to look like a schmuck. Some of the guys in the class had the audacity to wear t-shirts and shorts to class. God only knows what's going to become of their children. Hookers, drug addicts, and deadbeats who wind up in jails, institutions or dead I suppose. Tragic.

The class was very informative and we learned that the bumper has to come off the crib and returned or burned immediately per the SIDS Foundation. We also learned, from the Louisville Fire Department, that 90 percent of all people install car seats incorrectly. We're going to a local firehouse to have the baby seat inspected after we install it. And I thought pot made me paranoid... Sheesh.

Sunday we spent Mother's Day over at Allyson's mother's house. I cooked dinner for everyone and it was the best meal Allyson and her Mom and Dad ever had! I didn't think it was all that big a deal. After all, It was only spaghetti and meatballs, but they just wouldn't stop going on about it.

As I was digesting my second plate of spaghetti and bolognese sauce I realized that next year I was going to have to add May, June, and July on to my calender. In the past I spent these ridiculously hot and gloomy months hibernating in my apartment awaiting the triumphant return of football season, but next year I'll be infinitely busier.

Also, Allyson went from being pregnant to being really pregnant over the weekend and Erika thinks that I should add some more super heroes to the wall so I'm off to Target sometime this week to buy the Green Lantern Corps.

I like the baby's room, Mrs. Corky. Very cute. I like the matching living room furniture, too.
Don't let the "pregnant-to-very-pregnant" thing worry you. The baby will come when it wants to, no matter what. I was "very pregnant" the last 3 monthes of the last one!

Well, at least you spent an interesting weekend. I would prefer to get out during those hotter months--makes one appreciate the beginning of football season more, ironically enough.

No Spidey figures?

Sounds like an interesting weekend. This is the 1st that I have of the bumper pads aheving to come down NOW. We were told to take them down after the baby starts rolling and trying to pull herself up, way back in the old days. Very interesting....
I feel very sorry indeed for the kids of the t shirt parents. No hope at all for these kids...

Corky's room is looking pretty good there.

Happy Mother's day to Mrs. Corky and Mrs Corky's mom and all the other moms.

Very cute room. Also, a local car dealership may also have a car safety check day they sponsor with local EMT personnel (we do it) where they check car seats and if yours isn't right (but if it's new, it should be fine) they'll give you a new car seat on the spot, for free. We sponsor an event like this every year.
Still think he needs a cape to fly home in.

Hoosiergirl5: Thanks for the compliments and the advise. We appreciate it.

Slskenyon: Thanks for stopping by. It was a pretty interesting weekend indeed.

Snowflake: Not yet. I'll let you take care of that. ;)

Biddie: The woman who teaches the class and has been doing it for years, said that they change what they tell people all the time and they go back and forth a lot. She also said that since the SIDS Foundation started telling people to place babies on their backs when they sleep the infant mortality rate has been cut in half.

Jay: Thanks Man.

Sunshine. The kid definitely needs a cape to fly home in. I found a Superman outfit at Kids R Us, but it's for 2 year olds so I decided to wait a couple of weeks before I buy it.

I ALWAYS take my carseats to the firehouses.
It's scary shiz.
I know the proper way to install one, now and can do it in less than a minute.
The trick is to get it really tight, NO wiggling side to side. The key is to climb into the back seat and put your knee onto the base of the car seat while you pull the seatbelt as tight as it will go. Pull the seatbelt ALL the way out until you hear a click and then it'll lock in place catching every 1/4 inch or so.
You don't want Corky Jr's head flopping down so the fireman might put a foam noodle behind the seat, or tell you to use a rolled up hand towel.

I spent a lot of time at the firehouse.
Coincidence that the firemen were hot?
Of course not!

Sounds like the time is near!!! I'm really excited for the both of you.

I'm a champ at putting the car seats in. One of the few duties that my soon to be ex thinks I actually do with any kind of respectability. It's all in using your knee to force the car actually throw the seat itself. See, the cushioning will start coming out of the seat and then surround your child like some sort of protective foam.

Beader: I wish somebody had told me!!! ;)

Karma: I'm going to hunt down Wonder Woman, Green Lantern and the Flash this week. I like to set goals at the beginning of the week. It helps me be more productive.

Alicia: I'm definitely taking it to the firehouse to make sure I'm doing it right, but I won't be sliding down any poles while I'm there. ;)

Lady K: It's getting close and we're getting more nervous by the day.

do you have enough room for the entire corps?

and i can tell you from experience ... no matter how super-duper officially secure a seat might seem, you'll never think it's totally safe. get used to the neurosis.

Sounds like you're the one doing all the work! Allyson has it easy. Just kidding!!! You be as nice to her as you can, hear? The room looks great, as does the new furniture. Good idea about having the firehouse install the carseat. They're almost impossible to install yourself anyway.

Want to share your spaghetti and bolognese sauce recipe?

The baby's room looks much more complete. Your baby mama did a great job. This is all so exciting waiting for this baby to come and I don't even know you!

And one of your commenters suggested a cape and that sounds like a brilliant idea.

It does go too fast, enjoy it while you can. It goes faster when you have more kids too.

Furious: Listening to you guys talk about putting the car seat in makes me think they should enter it as trial sport in the next Olympics. That would be cool.

Eric: I barely have enough room for the furniture. Luckily the Corps consists of three figures in this instance.

Cheryl: The sauce is not all that important. It's all about the meat. Lots of meat! :)

Kat: Thanks. I think you know me pretty well even though we never met face to face, but some day when you make it big I'm going to hit you up for an autograph, and right before you mace me I'm going to scream, "NO Don't! It's me Captain Corky"!

Etain: I know! Pretty soon we'll be taking Jr to college. ;)

Blancodeviosa: Thanks. But I know your favorite part is the action figures on the wall. I did that, the hard part. ;)

Corky,

Let me know if you'd like a signed 8x10 of me for the wall in the baby's room...color or black & white.

The room looks great! Good job!

Sounds like a good day was had by all. :)

p.s. I tried to leave a comment last night, but blogger wouldn't let me. :(

I've begun to think 1/2 the purpose of parenting class is to scare the bajeezus out of the parents. I had a friend who would come home crying after each one. She was convinced she'd accidentally kill her baby in the first week.

He turns 4 this year.

You guys will be just fine!

Metal Mark: It's gone by really fast! It feels like just yesterday Allyson and I were busy conceiving this kid.

Michael C: Thanks Pal. I wanted to go with a 50's diner theme. You know which diner I'm talking about, but Allyson wouldn't let me.

Rockdog: Definitely color and you can throw in a copy of your guide to srtip bar happiness and etiquette for when Jr gets older of course.

Big Pissy: Thanks. I'm just glad you came by today. ;)

Tink: I didn't cry, but I was catatonic after the class for at least 6 hours.

The room looks great!

As for the car seat, if you can, get it installed before the baby arrives. That way they won't want to arrest you for child endangerment the way they did to us when we rolled up to the CHP station. They were so shocked that we had been riding around with the seat like that for months that a guy who was off duty helped us adjust it.

Pink: More heroes are the answer to every problem in life.

Jenny: Thanks. :)

Gina: Thanks for the compliment and the advise. We're definitely going to make sure we put it in right.
