Happy New Year

Of course I'm using this picture to usher in July. July is my new favorite month. When I think about July I think about fireworks, picnics, watermelons spiked with vodka, and vodka. You know, the good stuff in life. It's really hard to concentrate on anything right now... I'm basically just standing at attention and waiting for Allyson to make the call, "It's time Corky" (Yes folks, Allyson gets to call me Corky instead of Captain Corky, or Darth Corky, at least when we're not in public that is).

When we were deciding when to have our baby we flipped a coin. Heads the baby would be born in December and tails the baby would be born in July. If you think about it those are really the only two months that make sense for a birthday. My birthday is in October which makes perfect sense if you're me, but would make no sense for Corky Jr or anybody else for that matter.

I've touched on this a little bit before, but here's why July makes perfect sense for Corky Jr's birthday: The new Year for me has always started in September. This year in particular on September 6th. Football season. Then in October I turn 37 on October 22nd. Also, October is the second month of Football season. Next comes November, and that means Thanksgiving. It's also known as the third month of Football season around these parts. The fourth month on my calender is December. December=Charlie Brown Christmas specials, and the final month of the regular football season.

January is a big fucking deal around here and pretty much used to be the most important month of the year for us! The 5th month of my year starts off with Allyson's birthday on the 4th. Every weekend is consumed by playoff football and our wedding anniversary is on the 10th. Most of my lottery numbers come from this month, obviously.

The final month of my year starts in February, and the Super Bowl is basically my New Years eve party. I pretty much have a hangover that lasts from Super Bowl day night until September. At least that's how shit used to be.

From here on out my year will start in July. Not sure of the exact date as of yet, but next year on my calender there will be a grand celebration in July, with fireworks, birthday cake, and crazy fucking sales at malls. I'm also going to have figure out a way to work August back into my life, and I know most of you are thinking, preseason football. Preseason football drives me nuts. It's such a dirty tease. But I do love to draft for my fantasy football teams in August. So August will now be known as fantasy month around here. It won't really exist, but it will. Now do you people understand?

Thanks for explaining that. :)

Great,
KJR was already walking around trying to will the birth on the 13th, now you go and say it is the only month worth having a birthday.
There will be no living with him!!!

I always run into you, and finally decided to visit. You live in Jersey? We are neighbors!

Absolut Vodka right. If you wanna get even a bigger star on the corner, you should go for Absolut Ruby (or something like that). Omg you are a fellow Libra? Wicked! That kinda explains a lot.

The baby.. wow, I’m getting all nervous and giddy just reading about the countdown, can’t imagine how you and the mrs are holding out.

I think that I understand. Happy New Year?

Errr..well duh.

Of course we understand.

What did you have to go on about?

Happy New Year...we're all waiting to be uncles!

Good luck with that baby countdown. Fantasy football is all we have in Detroit. I've seen some historic suckfests in the name of Lion's football. That's why we love hockey so much. Good lord do they blow head cheese.

Beader: I think we're doing ok. Allyson is cutting thousands upon thousands of coupons, and I'm breathing heavily into a brown paper bag.

Erika: Anxiety is my new middle name.

Hoosiergirl5: Are you trying to tell me something...;)

Biddie: Now you know everything there is to know about me. Happy Canada Day!

Birdman: At least he goes to bed by 8 PM. LOL!

captain corky said...

Enemy of the Republic: I was born in NC, raised in NJ, spent most of my 20's in DC and now live in KY.

Welcome to the log!!!

Crashdummie: I'm not really into astrology all that much, but I'm pretty much a text book Libra, so I probably should look into it more.

We're very anxious, that's for sure!

MJD: Warning: Corky's log can do irrevokable damage to a scientific mind. ;)

Pink: Happy New Year my friend! Of all people I knew you would understand.

Eric: I don't know how you do it. Thank god I'm peeling potatoes on Thanksgiving while I watch the Lyons or I think I would gouge my eyes out.

Jay said...

I'm a little concerned here. I'm beginning to understand you. ;-)

What? Me? Hinting? (innocent look)

I was just saying, that's all....

But it IS a very good month. Really. I have always liked it. Just the right distance from Christmas.

The scary thing is that that post actually made sense to me. ;) Good luck with the countdown. A girl at work just went through hers and finally had her baby a week ago! Hope your's is less anxiety filled. :)

Jay: I forgot to warn you that I'm highly contagious. I like the new pic.

Hoosiergirl5: Time is going by pretty fast! Pretty soon You'll be putting up another Christmas banner.

Karma: Thanks, and if I'm starting to make sense to you, be afraid, be very afraid. ;)

Pissy: If Jr is born on the 7th his birthday will be 7/7/07. That would be pretty cool.

What a Crock: August sounds like a good month for you. I will come to you in August for some knowledge.

Joshua said...

well that is a very well thought out year!

Sounds good.

Is it all about the NFL, or do you have time for some college ball in your life too?

February is the megamonth for me. February to November I get to hear the vroom vrooom vrooooom! of race cars and imagine the smell of gasoline, burnt motor oil, smoking tires and hot asphalt those few months. When I'm really really lucky, I get to go see it, hear it and smell it, up close and personal. It's a good thing the Superbowl and Daytona 500 aren't on the same day, cuz I'd have to boycott American football, altogether. Other than that, I do love cuddling under the blankets in the NASCAR off-season, watching big brawny guys slap each other on the ass, all secure in their manhood cuz they just crushed some guy and scored a big ol' TD.

Hazed said...

BTW, I can't wait to see Corky Jr. July will definately be more special to you than any other month, now. I promise.

Heidi the Hick said...

HAPPY CANADA DAY/ NEW YEAR!!!!!

Oh, wait...

HAPPY EARLY JULY 4TH/ NEW YEAR!!!!!

Heather and Ian said...

corky: 7/14/07 would be cool, too. i'd be 30 years older than him to the day.

birdman: KJR is right, july is clearly the only decent month for a birthday.

Jodi said...

Thanks for reminding me about those banners...I need to get a "Days Til School Starts" banner, or a Halloween one, or something....just to get everyone thinking....

When I think of July, I think of my nameday. As I come from a culture where birthdays are oly celebrated for kids, and grownups only celebrate namedays (once a year, but has nothing to do with how old you actually are)... hence, me getting all excited - it's like a birthday, only better" ;)

captain corky said...

Chucky: The NFL Network does a pretty good job of covering draft prospects from the college level. I probably would watch College Football if they had a playoff system, but until they get one I will not watch.

Fridaysweb: I hear once you go to a race there's no turning back. and I've also heard that going to the Daytona 500 is a very serious good time.

Heidi the Hick: Merry Christmas! Or something like that. ;)

Jetsgrumbler: I'll never forget any of your birthdays ever again.

30 years. Wow!

Hoosiergirl5: Since I don't watch the news or use Calendars all that often, I have to rely heavily on blogs to stay in touch with the world. So thank you for keeping me informed about major Holidays and what not. ;)

Heart: That sounds like a better idea, because who want's to think about getting older once a person is passed 25. Know what I mean?

My kids were born in September and November. Apparantly, hubby and I are sick of sex by March or so.

July is a great month for a birthday. No sharing with big f'n holidays, other than the 4th, which is a pretty laid back holiday. And no interference with COLLEGE football games. (Another reason to like college football more - the season usually starts a week earlier.)

Ms. Tuesday said...

Makes perfect sense to me!

BTW- my computer is broken... not ignoring you guys, but its hard to find time at work these days...

MrRyanO said...

This clears up a lot and I do understand...I do...sort of.

Michael C said...

July 4th is like my new Christmas...actually it always has been one of my top 2 fav holidays!!

Lady K said...

I'm two days ahead of ya in October.

Football should be a year-round sport.

Jenny! said...

My birthday is in August, can't that be your motivation for working it back into your life??? So can you explain you body clock to me now...I get your calendar!

Jerrster said...

No I'm clueless about what you speak of Capt'n...but thats most likely due to living in So Calif. Where it's Summer 12 months of the year and the only way we know it's Fall is because the Store Mannequins are wearing coats and the artificial leaves in store windows are orange and brown.

Michael Colvin said...

So is the new Corkian calendar that you are explaining? I'm confused. If it catches on will I still get to scive off work on Friday afternoons?

captain corky said...

Heather: That's a great selling point about college football, but until they flush the bowl system down the toilet no college football for me. Besides I play shuffle board on Saturday.

Tuesday: You got to get that thing fixed. How does a household function these days without a computer?

Rockdog: See! it's that simple...

Michael C: Have you put up your 4th of July tree yet?

Lady K: I agree, 5 months just isn't enough!

captain corky said...

Blancodeviosa: Pretty soon the Corky calendar is going to replace the Christian calendar. Be the first kid on your block to pre-order one. ;)

Jenny: Once the Captain Corky new world order goes into affect we could rename August, Jenny. If you pledge yourself to our cause anything is possible!

Jerrster: I can forgive California for most of it's shortcomings because I'm pro pot too.

Tod: Because you're my friend you'll still be able to enjoy your Friday afternoons. I'm not sure if Friday will still be called Friday when all is said and done though.

Metal Mark said...

My favorite month is October due to Halloween, the weather and being in the heart of the football season.

What month is this?
I only thought I was cornfused...now, you've put me over the edge.

cathy said...

How hot does it get over there?
Have you any idea how awful it is to be pregnant in summer?
All babies should be born in may.

Joshua said...

Yeah college ball needs a playoff system bad.

I just never really got into the NFL. Growing up all I had was 49ers or the Raiders. I did jump on the Cowboys bandwagon after they won a superbowl back in the day.

Nancy said...

Great theory, but then my New Year would start in April, unless I wanted to add spring training, Feb ... and would run through Oct ... and end at the World Series.

*waves flag* wishing you your Happy New Year =)

Cheryl said...

My favs are November, December and summer. I'll just take those 3. Oh, and October for you.

Webmiztris said...

you just be patient! I'm no more ready to think about football season than I am to think about Christmas shopping!! so THERE! ;)

Rick Rockhill said...

oh i'm with you. I'd go ahead and move Christmas to July anyway while you're at it.

captain corky said...

Metal Mark: I agree. I think October is a great month. Weather wise you can't beat it, and like you said, football season is in full swing.

Swamp Witch: Don't worry the feeling of disorientation usually wears off 5 minutes after you click out of the log. ;)

Cathy: It is hot here in Louisville during the Summer! But thankfully we've been keeping home at about 70's degrees.

Chucky: A lot of people love college ball here in Kentucky. It's bigger than pro ball here. But for me pro will always be the best. Try fantasy football. The game is so much fun!

captain corky said...

Nancy: So you're one of those people... ;)

Most of my friends back home, and even my parents are too.

Cheryl: All great choices. We still have to figure out something to do with August though. ;)

Webmiztris: But it's almost time to draft for fantasy teams. Get on the ball sister. Also, we usually put our tree up in March but, that's a story for another post. ;)

Palm Springs Savant: The problem with that is who would rewrite all those Irving Berlin songs?

Dizzie said...

I know that feelin'...

*sigh*

Aunt Jackie said...

Well, eventually August will be "Back to School" time for Corky Jr... also, when he begins to play Football, the practices always start in the summer and they begin playing football games in August.

That may be a while to come yet... but knowing he's got 'heroic' genes, he's sure to be the Quarterback!

Jenny! said...

Consider me pledged!

The [Cherry] Ride said...

What the hell are you talking about??

And thanks for adding me to your All Star Squadron list. I am honored. Can I be the Hourman (since, unfortunately, there's no Aquaman in the A.S.S.)?

I'll be updating mine this weekend and you'll be on it, sir.

magickat said...

Oh my god. You're so bizarre. But I think you are on to something. You know if you rename August to Fantasy that would make that month more exciting. Especially since there are no holidays in it.

January, February, March, April, May, June, July, Fantasy, September, October, November, December.

Yeah, that totally works.

captain corky said...

Heart: Yeah, *sigh*

Aunt Jackie: Great insight into the future. Perhaps a pro career is in his future!

Jenny: It's in blood now. ;)

Cherry Ride: "What the hell are you talking about??"

I forget. Hourman is cool!

Kat: Fantasy is a great name! It's official, sort of. ;)
