My Favorite Thing

This week has been about the roughest week I've had to face since Max was born. First the Colts lose to the Patsies and then I internalise the fact that the Writers Guild of America is on strike. I am not prepared to deal with reruns in November, and December and maybe much longer than that. Fuck.

With the Holidays coming up I was looking forward to new Thanksgiving and Christmas episodes of the Big Bang Theory, I love Lucy, Eight is Enough, Charles In Charge, Happy Days, Star Trek, All in the Family, The Odd Couple, Seinfeld, The Love Boat, Smallville, Fantasy Island The Honeymooners, and last but not least Starsky and Hutch. Now how am I going to do to get into the holiday spirit? Fuck.

For the last two days I've done nothing but hold Max and listen to Tony Bennett's version of, My Favorite Things. And the worst part is that it's not helping. By the time silver white winter melts into spring, the strike could still be going on. Again, what am I going to do? Double Fuck.

Not only am I worried about my family, but I'm worried about you too! How are you going to cope? Please don't turn to drugs, drinking, over eating, gambling, and God forbid... Reality TV. This is worse than the B stinging, the dog biting, and my balls feeling blue all combined in to one. Triple Fuck.

We've got to come up with an alternative plan to watching TV that does not include setting up meth labs in our basements. I know we can do this if we put our heads together.

All I know is that it's gonna be ugly around here if I can't watch new episodes of Reaper or Supernatural.
I can always bring out my Krofft Superspecial DVD, but I think that my kids will protest.
Yup, it's gonna be ugly.

I'm amazed that ur able to squeeze in that amount of tellie watching!

To be honest, all we get here at Far Side are reruns and are about a season behind u guyz, so haven't been effected by teh strike at all...

so i'll survive. the question is, will you?

Corky, I feel your pain and offer this solution: PORN.

Even the scab writers can't make the dialog any worse!

Need a hug?

Get thee to a library strumpet. Read some books and stuff.

I know how you feel man. When they run out of episodes of Pushing Daisies and Life what am I going to watch on Wed nights? The NBA? I'd rather have Rosie O'Donnell rip my balls off. Well, maybe I shouldn't go THAT far. But, it's pretty close.

Maybe the NFL could start playing games on weeknights?

Or maybe I'll just sit and drink. ;-)

oh poor, poor you, i feel sad for you, but hey i know how to cheer you up, no no behave, i was thinking about a party!

Jen said...

I think you need a hug from rockdog

Every show I watch has already been filmed for the season. So, no worries here. And since all my husband watches is sports, I think we're all right, there, too. Jeez, I've got no friggin' life.

Burfica said...

Time to catch up on the about 50 movies I have in a pile that I haven't watched yet. hehehehehe

I better settle my overdue accounts with the video store(s)...

I keep thinking about all those poor folks on Lost. Now they're going to be on that damned island even LONGER!!

Kelly said...

I am pretty sad about the strike too, since LOST and 24 are already being pushed back to February!

Use the time to go and make a new baby! Failing that, you could read a book. You could read to Max while your at it.

Hahaha. New episodes of Happy Days, All in the Family, Seinfeld . . . hahahahaha. That is my only response to that.

Biddie: The Krofft Superspecial is the way to go. If we have two more boys we're going to name them Sid and Marty.

I just haven't told Allyson yet. ;)

Crashie: I sure hope so. Maybe I'll get that degree in gun smithing I've always wanted to pursue. ;)

Rockdog: Porn... You're a genius! Why didn't I think of that. Can I cash in on that hug now?

Furiousball: What is library? Do they have an adult section and do they offer peep shows?

Jay: Drinking is a good idea. Maybe I'll check out the scene at happy hour. It's been years since I was a regular. It may be time to reprise my roll. ;)

captain corky said...

Her Indoors: A party is a good idea. Maybe a Thanksgiving Comment-a-thon? ;)

Jen: You guys got it made! I have no idea what I'm going to do. But a hug from Rockdog is a good start.

Burfica: Sounds like a good idea. There are a couple of shows I've wanted to watch and this may be just the opportunity I've been waiting for.

Dilling: I still have some videos out from the 1980's. I hope they don't find me here in Kentucky. LOL

Fiwa: Compared to the folks on Gilligan's Island those Lost folks are just on an extra long vacation. LOL

captain corky said...

MyUtopia: Without fresh TV I'm the one will be Lost. ;)

Peggy: That's a fantastic idea. I just don't know if Allyson's on board right this second. but we could practice a lot. ;)

Emmeline: Glad you caught that. ;)

Gina said...

Dude, does this mean I have to take back all those boxes of Sudafed I just bought?

Never Fear! Sunrise Records and HMV sell seasons of most of those shows on DVD. Oh and don't worry, we have episodes of I Love Lucy on dvd. You just have to pry it out of my sister's hands.

Tink said...

*Gasp* Do you think this is going to effect LOST?!

Michael Colvin said...

Lucky for you Corky that all the good shows have already been made.:)

Gotta be said...Big Bang Theory is the BEST comedy to come out in a long time! The one-liners that fly on that show are awesome!

Maybe the alternative plan lies within your post.

I just don't know Captain... I am going to need a lot of coddling and one-on-one support from you. I may not be able to stay on the wagon.

Think of all the babies that will be made during this strike..just like in power outages..what else do we do?

WE could form a replacements team and write as replacements! I like that movie, what can I say! :)
Always,

Well, I'm with ya...I'll soon start to get the shakes and that'll be bad. The only good thing is that I have about 80 hours of movies and tv shows tivoed.

Unknown said...

I may be mistaken, but I don't think the people at PBS are up in arms about this. Since I have three PBS stations and little else, I feel I shall persevere.
I am also three weeks behind on most shows, so I think I will parcel them out so I can keep myself occupied.

I hope there will soon be episodes of Small Wonder and Emergency! There hasn't been Little House on the Prairie lately, either. Have people been on strike and I don't know it!?

Cheryl said...

I guess I'll be watching the full episodes of all the shows I haven't been watching. I'm already feeling withdrawals.

Michael C said...

Well, we could quiz each other with trivia from our favorite shows (that are now in damn reruns). Or we could blog, OR write new scripts for the shows we won't be able to watch again until this long national nightmare finally ends...

Anonymous said...

i'm really not worried about any of it - it'll go on just long enough for all of us to get super-worried and realize just how much we love tv - after all, no writers means no shows and no new shows means no big bucks advertisers, which means the world as we know it...ends... ;)

magickat said...

The WGA is NOT GOOD at all. It's all consuming here... for us it REALLY sucks. Not only do we not have fresh programming to watch... we now have no jobs which sucks because there is nothing to watch on t.v. while we are waiting for the strike to end!

magickat said...

Wait - rephrase... the WGA rocks. The strike is what sucks.

jsut wanted to clear that up!

Joshua said...

I don't even have a tv in my room!

I think I'll be just fine.

Good luck sir

whimsical brainpan said...

If the strike does go on too long maybe one good thing will come out of it, the death of "Reality TV". Americans will be sick of it by then right? Right?!

Mona said...

Hi Captain, Haven't seen you around since Dan went...

& now I see you are very much here...got your link from Utopia's

I hope you are doing well!

captain corky said...

Gina: It could come to that, but lets hope not. ;)

Adult: If things get really bad with this strike I may have to come up there and move into your living room.

But then again when most of the shows that are on now are long forgotten I'll still be watching Lucy.

Tink: Not as bad, but it seems that almost everyone who reads this blog will be lost without that show. I prefer Gilligan's Island myself. Much more realistic. Plus, Mary Ann and Ginger. ;)

Har: Finally! Somebody that feels my pain. Maybe we could start a support group.

Tod: True. If things get real desperate I'll reach into the vault and pull out some Bewitched. ;)

captain corky said...

Anonymous: Exactly! No other show on TV makes me laugh harder. I guess the Office does occasionally.

Gawilli: If it were spring I would just go fishing. Max is almost old enough. ;)

Aunt Jackie: I'm here for you. A couple of us are starting a support group and your always welcome. ;)

Crusty: I wonder how this strike will influence the population in a year. ;)

Bonnie Blue: And there's always the Game Show Network too. We'll make it. We're survivors.

captain corky said...

Ashley: I'm sure all the actors from Small Wonder are available. LOL

Cheryl: It's never to late to start watching Smallville. I highly recommend it. It starts getting really good between season 2 and 3, but I like all of them.

Michael C: Yes... We could blog. We could start a campaign something about getting back to blogging. I like it!

Erika: A world without television isn't any kind of world I want to know. If the strike doesn't end soon I may take cyanide. ;)

Kat: I hope it's not to rough for you, because it really affects you much worse than it does us.

Lola Starr said...

Wow. I am so glad I don't watch t.v.

captain corky said...

Chucky: What?!? How do you function? ;)

Whim: One can only hope so... Death to Reality TV (except the Surreal Life).

My 13 year old daughter is a huge Tony Bennett fan. Well actually she only weighs about 70 lb but you know what I mean.

I'm gettign through the writer's strike by writing!!!

Hey Corky, I'm using the computer in Jethro's office and with all this humming and blinky lights it's like being on the bridge of the Enterprise. And I thought of you. Just wanted you to know that.

Big Pissy said...

Cork...don't despair!

Now is the time to watch all those shows you haven't had time to watch...Netflix entire seasons of 'Felicity' and 'Dawson's Creek'...classics like that.

...and be sure you have plenty of beer on hand while you're watching.

p.s. Love love LOVE all the Max pictures. He is a doll baby! :)

Molly said...

I hope that this is not a silly question. But haven't these shows, "I Love Lucy, Eight is Enough, Charles In Charge, Happy Days, Star Trek, All in the Family, The Odd Couple, Seinfeld, The Love Boat, Fantasy Island The Honeymooners, and Starsky and Hutch," already been written? So you should be able to watch them to your heart's content.

You are right about one thing Reality TV is not an option. Now, if you want to watch new shows, that is a problem. Maybe the writers and their employers will settle this matter quickly, and all will be right in Corkyland.

Christie said...

Corky, I so feel for you. But this is preparation for when Corky Jr. starts watching The Wiggles and My Friends Tigger and Pooh. You'll get to watch them over and over and over and over and over again. And over again, too.

Desperate times call for desperate measures. Here are some wacky ideas:

1. read a book
2. meet friends for coffee
3. take your baby out for a stroll
4. make love to your wife

ok, I admit, becoming a drug addict seems easier and more fun, but you've got to hang in there, Corks.

Real Live Lesbian: I love that show and just like Laverne I have a C.C. monogram on every shirt I own. ;) Welcome!

Special K: So what you're basically saying is that you'll have a blue Christmas without meth. Welcome!

Leslie: That's not a bad idea at all, but I would be scared that we would put the strikers to shame. ;)

Guilty: Death to Reality TV!

Heidi: Nice! Now what you need is to print out a picture of me ant put one in every room so you're always thinking of me. ;)

captain corky said...

Jackie: I do my best. ;)

Canadian Flake: I'll never be on strike here Flake. I'm not even smart enough to blog for food. LOL

Ubermouth: TV is God spelled backwards. Welcome!

Pissy: I am toying around with the idea of watching the Sopranos if things get really bad. And Thanks. :)

MJD: Some people choose to believe in Santa Clause their whole lives. I choose to believe that I Love Lucy and all those great shows were never canceled.

Do you think I need therapy?

captain corky said...

Christie: Corky Jr will only be watching Superhero cartoons and the NFL Network. Period.

You do believe me right? ;)

Pink: I like your suggestions, especially number 4! Wa, wa, wa...

David Mcmahon: I'm doing the best that I can my friend. ;)

Maybe they really are out to get you.

All we have left is syndication.

Maybe there is no god.

No tooth faerie

No santa

No freedom

Maybe they will bring us all down, starting with the TV, where so many people connect.

What an evil plot!

Good eye.

Or, you could invest in a leather gimp outfit and some butt plugs and take up S&M.

Anyway, I only watch National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation and The Ref between Thanksgiving and Christmas so I'm good for a while.
