Christmas thoughts with Captain Corky

I used this picture last year in a piece I did about gum. Next year I'll use the pic again, but I'm not sure what I'll write about.

Things I still haven't done yet:
1. Gone Christmas Shopping.
2. Taken out the garbage.
3. Finished painting the new house.
4. Gotten the electric turned on in the new house, because the City House Inspector is an asshole, who doesn't return phone calls or communicate effectively.
5. Jumped out of an air plane, and I never will. I prefer all of my highs to come from liquids, pills or plants and fungus.
6. Oh... and I still don't own A Christmas Story on DVD. I was so embarrassed when I watched it a couple of weeks back and had to watch it on VHS.

Favorite Christmas Movies:

1. It's a Wonderful Life: Definitely one of my top 5 favorite movies of all time excluding certain Star Trek, Superman, Star Wars, and X-Men movies.
2. A Christmas Story: Give me a break! The movie's a masterpiece.
3. Love Actually: I was so enamored with this flick the first time I saw it in the theatre. I can't say that about a lot of movies, excluding certain Star Trek, Superman, Star Wars, and X-Men movies.
4. Miracle on 34th Street: Great movie. I can't stress enough how much I love movies starring Maureen O'Hara. If you ever get a chance you should check out Mr Hobbs Takes a Vacation starring Jimmy Stewart and Maureen O'Hara.
5. Another Christmas Movie: I always leave this slot open for all the other Christmas movies I love.

Favorite Christmas Songs:

1. I listen to Christmas music all year round cause I'm a freak like that.
2. Honestly it's too hard for me to come up with my top 5 without giving it a lot of thought.
3. Go here and here to sample some of Captain Corky's favorite holiday and every day music.

Shit. I've gotta get to work.

I LOVE Love Actually. I watch it all year and would estimate I've probably viewed it a couple hundred times. I'm pathetic.

Also, love the Monkees. I've never seen that clip, it was awesome!

Sunshine said...

Also Donna Reed is from the town next door to me, they celebrate all things Donna and It's a Wonderful Life, all the time.
Just so you know, in case you visit.

I love the Monkeys! I never knew they could belt out tunes like that. I've never seen It's A Wonderful Life. Can I come over and watch it with you? Will there be beer?

MERRY CHRISTMAS, MOVIE HOUSE!!!!!!!

MERRY CHRISTMAS, YOU OLD BUILDING AND LOAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ah. Ok, feel better.

Ok, as for the movies on the list...I've only ever seen A Christmas Story. Can I chalk it up to being a jew? Do I get away with not seeing xmas movies based on that? If not...I think I'll say I'm embarrassed since these movies are on EVERY year.

As for your to do list...get a move on it C! I feel your pain with the new house issues. Oh do I feel your pain. I want to KILL the contractor on a daily basis.

On xmas music...some is ok but by now, it's overkill and I hate most of it. Though, because of insanity in college, I LOVE Barbra's xmas songs....jingle bells...jing jangle...a classic...as are the muppets.

K, it's too early for me and now I'm just babbling.

Why isn't Charlie Brown Christmas on your list? :/

Dear Captain, I'm so glad!---It's a Wonderful Life is one of our best favorites too!
(I once got the crap beat out of me while that movie was playing for the first time I'd ever seen it. Took a long time for me to watch it again. When I finally did, I loved it.)
(Miracles still happen. Isn't it wonderful?)
Try to keep the happy thoughts---this time of year is stressful enough without all the moving issues...

I will be singing Monkee songs all day today. Thank you.

A Christmas Story is one of the best movies ever made! We got it on disc last year and watched it with the whole dam fam- my sister and parents included. My ol man laughed his head off and he doesn't laugh easily...it's gotta be reeeal funny.

Fa ra ra ra ra, ra ra ra ra!

But the Grinch is up there too. Not that crappy movie, the cartoon. The real one.

Dude, I'm sorry, I can't get into Christmas music for the following reasons:

-overkill
-poor performances put together quickly for the sake of cashing in all of December

-my husband spends most of June and July whistling these songs because all day and I do mean ALL DAY he's in the studio recording them, and let me tell you, spend two summer months listening to various renditions of Santa Baby and you'll be sick of it too!!!

OH-- I heard that the house they filmed A Christmas Story in is a museum now!!!!!

Leighann said...

I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one who hasn't done their Christmas shopping!

Don't be ashamed of the VHS, the kids and I have watched A Christmas Story TWICE this week on VHS!

FA ra ra ra raa! Ra ra ra ra!

I have never seen Love Actually because it has the word "Love" in it. Scares me off right away. I have seen the others on your list, but don't watch any of them regularly. We watch Charlie Brown's Christmas, How the Grinch stole Christmas, all the Rankin and Bass stuff, Jingle all the way, Muppets Christmas Carol and the Alister Sims version of the Christmas Carol.

Jay said...

Miracle on 34th Street is a really great movie. I love Maureen O'Hara too!

Good thing you included some Dean Martin Christmas music on that play list dude! Deano is the best ever!

furiousBall said...

I concur A Christmas Story is in my top 10 movies of all time. Haven't seen Love Actually, I'll add that to my list. It is cool you get into the holidays, that will pay dividends for Max.

Burfica said...

I loveeeeeeee the monkeys. hehehehehe

two of my all time favorite movies is Rudolph, Anabelles Wish. I love those two.

Oh oh and remember they used to show Sound of Music, the weekend before Christmas every year. I've been wanting to put that in again. And yes I have all those on vhs. lol

A wonderful life was my favourite as a kiddy winkie. Then I grew up and realized that it was sentimental mush for the weak minded. Then I became old and weak minded and it's my favourite mush.
Best wishes

I think I am going to re-post my review of some of my favorite Christmas movies from last year, since so few people got to enjoy them.

You and I are in agreement that Love Actually is one of the best movies around and I've always liked that Monkees song.

Anonymous said...

I am a movie FREAK and I've never sat and watched Miracle on 34th Street OR It's a Wonderful Life.

Do I have issues?

Dana said...

What??? Christmas Vacation isn't on your list? But it's a classic!!

OK, I can feel the torrent of shame coming on now, but... I never saw Love, Actually (though I wanted to) and... my favorite chirstmas song is "All I want for Chrsitmas" by Mariah... I know... Im sorry... Ill go now.

Michael Colvin said...

Love Actually is part of Christmas movie week over here. I'll look out for it. I've already seen Miracle on 34th (both versions), Elf & Scrooged.

One of my new favourite movies at this time of year is The Polar Express.

Good luck with the painting!

Big Pissy said...

'Love Actually' is one of my all time favorite movies....I watch it any time of the year. :)

Also has an awesome soundtrack~which I listen to all the time too.

Yes, I AM a geek! lol

Christie said...

I prefer my highs from those as well. We really must hang out. Love, Actually! I forgot that was a Christmas movie, but I love it.

The Monkees - my mom knew how much I loved to watch this show and held it over my head in case I was slow to get my work done. Those were the days.

My favorite Christmas movie is White Christmas. I'm such a sucker for Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye, and men in uniforms. This movie had it all. I cry every time I see it, still.

A Christmas Story is particular to the hearts of those of us in NW Indiana as it is set in Hammond. Great movie!

I love A Christmas Story! My mom wouldn't by me a BB gun, either. I so identified with Ralphy, having to eat Santa's boot. The nerve of that fat bastard, and that even more enraging "ho. ho. ho."

Grrrrrr.....

Xmas on the Deathstar. Now that is a movie somebody has to make.

Billy said...

Hey Hey we're the Monkees!

why, may i ask, is "mercy me" on your list twice? why? :)

The video for Christmas Wrapping was cute and she did a good job with it, but after spending the kind of time and energy she obviously did, I wish she would have done a better job lip syncing lol

She is still better than Brittany but come on!

fiwa said...

I think Mr. Jones was sampling some fungus himself. And he apparently needed a nail file for Christmas that year.

May I respectfully submit that you need to check out Christmas in Connecticut, another classic. Oh, and The Family Stone!

whimsical brainpan said...

I, like you, love A Christmas Story but only have it on VHS.

Yea, me too, I have to go to work. Your music has brought me some Christmas cheer. Your top three Christmas movies are my top three too although I would switch numbers 2 and 3. Christmas music...I like Harry Belafonte and Perry Como.

You might want to put White Christmas in your 5th spot. It is fantastic! I cannot watch it enough. It was playing at the Wal-Mart I went to tonight and I almost pulled up a chair and got comfy. My favorite songs had already been sung, however, so I figured why bother!

katy said...

We even picked up some Simpson holiday movies.
Now good luck with the move.

I love "It's a Wonderful Life". I watched it last night for the 500th time. I love the scene where Donna Reed is hiding in the bushes, and James Stewart is holding her robe saying, "This is an interesting situation. A fellow doesn't get into a situation like this every day." You could see James Stewart was really enjoying it.

jAMiE said...

I love A Christmas Story too...it's excellent...and i've had my tongue stuck to a pole too...ouch!

Jodi said...

I've never seen seen "Love Actually" but lots of people say I should....and now Corky recommends it! I MUST see it now!

Two of my favorite Christmas movies are "Holiday Inn" and "The Holiday" (totally a chick flick).

Love ya,
J.
