In America the 4th of July in known as Independence Day and has always been a day of great tradition. A time for drinking Budweiser, eating hot dogs and hamburgers, participating in three legged wheel barrel races, playing badminton, eating watermelon, buying new furniture, smoking pot down at the Mall in Washington DC, and of course watching fireworks right after the sun goes down (while preferably drinking more Budweiser).
I have seen Firework displays in Louisville, KY, New York City, and Livingston, New Jersey, but by far the best place to watch the fireworks on the 4th of July is Washington, DC. No contest. There's just something really amazing about watching them go off over the monuments. Makes you feel all warm and patriotic inside.
Be careful about how much you drink while you're down at the Mall in DC though, because the lines to the port-a-johns get insane by the time the fireworks actually start and because there are so many people down there you can't just piss in a bush or behind a tree or on the Lincoln Monument.
Independence Day is a good holiday. Is it my favorite holiday? No. Do I like it? Yes. I would probably rank it right up there with Halloween, but it ain't no Christmas or Thanksgiving.
So while you're all participating in three legged wheel barrel races or drinking Budweiser, take a few seconds and come on over to Corky's log for Captain Corky's First Annual Fourth of July Comment-a-thon! Leave as many comments as you like. I encourage all of my friends from foreign places to participate as well.
The comment-a-thon will go from today until Sunday the 6th which happens to be Max's 1st Birthday. More about that on Sunday. But for now let's get this party started. Quickly.

Shit! I think it's raining outside. You've got to be fucking kidding me! Now what am I going to do? Stay inside and drink beer and monitor the log all day.
Oh yeah, that's exactly what I'm going to do. ;) I may play with my kid and talk to my wife too.
So far the comment-a-thon is a raging success!
You can count on me to crank out some comments today. It is raining here too which screws up our plans.
$th of July was my favorite holiday when I was a kid. We were always with my family and in the pool and for some reason this holiday caused no stress and everyone was always so happy. Now I realize that reason was called alcohol.
We all went to the local park and Grucci, who started their business in our area, would give us the best firework show. We could stay up super late and go to the park in our pajamas and chase dragon flies and scream and yell with out getting in trouble.
My cousins would be there and my grandpa would always be laughing and telling jokes all day long.
Oh yeah, and I could drink soda pop. Which NEVER happened.
Happy 4th comment-a-thon!
I look forward to pics of Max's 1st birthday... cake face and all!
You know I'll always show up for a comment whoring fest!
Smoking pot down the Mall in D.C. is on my list of things to do! I hope you have a happy 4th!
I with blogger allowed us to post pictures in the comments section. Wouldn't that be cool? I mean sure, we can post links to pictures, but not the pictures themselves. I think allowing us to post pictures in comments would allow us to express ourselves in more creative ways.
Anyway, Happy 4th of July!
Off to Toys R us. I mean, what would the 4th be without missing pool toys?
Happy 4th Corky
Did someone say leave a comment? Oh how I love to comment, and comment and comment. But let me comment first. Happy Independence Day Corky! hope that pesky rain lets up.
we got lovely sunshine here, any one want to join me for a bud in the sun?
Happy 4th July corky and co
cant beat an ice cold bud sat in the sun mmmmmmmmmmmm
I'm glad to hear that no matter where in the world you go some guy can be seen pissing on a public monument.
Happy 4th July!
Oh Canada, my home and native land.........oooops, sorry...still in Canada, going on vacay on the 4th of July, weird, eh?
I guess I shouldn't mention that the weather here is superb.
Har: I've found that Alchohol solves all of life's little problems. At least it has for me. ;)
Nancy: Happy 4th to you!
I plan on taking a vid of Max eating his cake and hopefuly I will post it soon.
Sunshine: I knew I could cant on you! We whores have to stick together. ;)
Jay: You definitely have a point. Nice link! Makes me proud to be an American.
Har: I had to run to Wal*Mart a little while ago. If that aint American, I don't know what is.
Corky is pretty!
Furiousball: You have a good one as well!
Rick: It's overcast but it stopped raining. It doesn't matter though. I'm not really doing anything anyways. Have a good one, man.
Little Wanderer: No sun here, but plenty of bud. Kind of makes up for things.
Tod: Kind of makes you feel proud to be allive. Know what I mean?
Dilling: I'm not sure what's weird and what's not anymore. I've heard that I'm weird before but I'm just not so sure... ;)
Bonnie Blue: Enjoy! ;)
Corky, you left Florida with it's bolts of lightening and it still is sending thunderous storms rolling through the east side of Florida..whereabouts were you...roughly?
Already a year of Max's bday? I remember "discovering you" a few posts in after his birth.. :)
Happy days, fireworks and make sure you stay clear of the buttcrackers...those hurt..
at least that's what my Greek friends tell me. :)
Always,
Elizabeth
I can't believe Max is going to be 1...time really flies doesn't it?
Can't wait to see the cake video. That'll be great. They always are.

America x
Crusty: We were near Miami and we also went down to Key West. I can't believe he's a year old either. It goes so fast! Enjoy the fireworks tonight and I'll be sure to watch out for buttcrackers. ;)
Bonnie: It's moving a little too fast. I have a feeling we're going to be cleaning up a lot of cake. ;)
Har: Nothing embarrassing about having a nice cold beer. It's something to proud of actually. I think I'll go have one myself.
Little Wanderer: As long as you finished your bottle you can go to sleep. Good night. :)
I've just come from the independence day festivities. Isn't it ironic that we celebrate independence by needing to spend the day surrounded by people and activities? In any case, I kicked ass at badminton and enjoyed a beverage or two. Go America. Hope the rain stopped!
Happy 4th to you! Cant wait to see some footage of Max's first birthday! Isn't it crazy how fast time goes once you have a kid???
morning, hope you have not got a hang over from all the celebrations!
No way is Max nearly one!
Happy fifth of July, Corky!
Happy Fifth July, Corky
I am here at a motel in Clarksville. We spent the holiday visiting my sister in your city at Frazier Rehabilatation Hospital. We had a festive evening with pizza and pop plus a few beers (O'Doul's for me and Miller's Lite for the hubby)later at a bar. I am looking forward to videos of Max's birthday.
I'm loving this comment fest...it's good old fashioned clean bloggity-blogspot kind of fun.
Just because it's now the 5th doesn't mean that we can't have some more hot dogs and beer today! It's after noon so it's okay to start drinking again!
Patti: Nothing compares to a good game of badminton on Independence Day. Glad you enjoyed America's Birthday.
Melissa: Yeah, it's really crazy! Before I know it he'll be graduating high school.
Little Wanderer: No hangover thankfully. Yep, Max will be one in a few hours or so.
Guilty: Thanks! Last year at this time Allyson was in labor and I was sleeping. ;)
Molly: We spent last night watching our neighbors go to town with fireworks. It was crazy out here. Happy 5th. It will always be a special day for us cause it's the day that Allyson went into labor with Max.
Rick: This is pretty tame compared to what we've had in the past, but it's nice that everyone is participating and having fun with it.
Jay: Exactly: My liver is always ready for another round of beers. It doesn't matter what day of the year it is. ;)
woohoooooooo! please tell me i am not too late for the par-tay, Corkster!! i brought the bong and the funnel so let's get the tequila out and get our freaky freaks on!
god, your comment-a-thon has been a raging success. you go, corky. hey, who's that weird dude in the corner with his pants down and a lampshade on his head? oh corky! wild indeed. :)
Happy birthday to sweet Max!!! :)
Toasted marshmellows and now I smell like smoke. We all do.
Happy first birthday tomorrow Max!
Checking in to see how the commentathon party is going. I am back in northwest Indiana and ready for Max's first birthday party.
We were supposed to go to friends for dinner and fireworks, (can see them from their house)
She called and cancelled at 5, her and her hubby were fighting to bad, asked if we would keep their kid over night.
We had enough chicken, watermelon, cake, and soda for 9 of us, now down to 4.
Went to the golf course instead (that's where they light them off at)
Set up table, chairs and food and ate. There was a nice breeze so it wasn't to hot.
Gigantor's sisters showed up with kids Kiddo's age, so they all played touch football.
It started getting dark, and little girls walked around selling those glow necklaces and bracelets.
Bought kiddo and skinny K a necklace.
All the kids went out to play hide and seek while we waited for the fireworks to start.
Kiddo comes back saying stomach was bugging him.
It was from running and getting over hot, right after eating.
I was very emotional cuz it was my mom's birthday.
all through fireworks, I was emotional, kiddo moaned, and gigantor snored.
After as we packed up, kiddo had to go puke in the bushes.
Had to have brother in law jump the suburban the battery was dead.
Skinny K didn't want to spend the night after Kiddo puking, so we took him home.
emotions, dead batteries, puking kids, snoring husbands, and kids flaking on spending the night, and friends flaking on plans, wasn't a very good 4th actually.
Wonder how many comments that story added. hahahahahhaa
outa here for a while, I may be back.
Burfica wins a prize for the most comments so far.
Maybe you will have 100 comments before noon.
Wakeup Corky, time to start the birthday celebration.
