One

The kid turned 1 yesterday. No longer will I have to spend unnecessary time trying to calculate how old he is by month, week, hour or second. From now on he's one. Maybe in Six months I'll tell people he's 1 1/2 depending on my mood, but for now he's 1.

The kid's birthday party was a lot of fun. We barbecued, opened presents and ate cake. Next year will probably be a bowling/fishing party. As long as there are no clowns or pinatas I think everyone will be happy.

I took a vid of the kid eating his cake, but it turned out really dark. I'll have to work on it and see if I can get it ready to air on the log by November Sweeps. It's pretty funny. There were four of us screaming like fools while the kid shoved a ridiculous amount of cake all over the place.

Now that Max's Birthday has passed I can concentrate my energy into deciding what the kid's going to be for Halloween and who he should take with his first draft pick (which is next next month). As for Halloween though it'll be between Kirk, Superman, or a cowboy. Every Year as long as the kid lives under my roof!

Did someone say cake? Yum! Happy Birthday Max!

Thanks Tod! Lots of cake all over the place.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MAX! Corky, you are obviously confused ... you've got to calculate age my months until the SECON birthday - those are the rules!

Happy Birthday Max!
And Dana is right, someone decided a long time ago that you still have to say months for the duration of time his clothes say months. When he's 2, most of the clothes will say 2T with the occasional 24 months thrown in just to make you pissy. You'll still be finding 36 months clothes too but then it's OK, to say whatever you want.

You didn't read the entire dad book about age or you would have know this stuff, good thing you have a blog so we can tell you.

Gawd.

happy b-day Max!

I'm glad you're getting him ready for his first season of fantasy football. Kids his age tend to be a bit too carefree and he needs something important to obsess over.

Max has a face for a Vulcan. He would look great with the pointy ears, arched eyebrows, and a greenish hue of skin. Yes, Vulcan indeed.

Any time a parent tells me a kids age in months I refuse to calculate and just conclude that they are still small. 14 and a half months is a little too much detail.

I obviously don't spend much time with children.

You are such a caring father for taking the time to demand he wear specific costumes. I was a pumpkin the first five years of my life.

Happy Birthday Max!! What's more fun than presents and cake??!!

Congratumalations!

Sorry, Corks, but in my experience you have to keep measuring his age in months till he's one and a half.

Maddy said...

Ah too true. The only trouble is, now you've passed the big one year mark, everything starts speeding up just like everybody always tells you it does.
Best wishes

I love it when they go wild with the cake.

This looks like it's gonna be the first Halloween that Kiddo want's to stay home in a scary mask and hand out candy. Should be fun.

What a cutie! Can you even remember what life was like before Max? Funny how kids have a way of taking over your life. I mean that in a good way.

Dana: Thanks! Me confused?!? Impossible. ;)

Sunshine: Thanks! Thank God I have a blog, cause the only place I study how to be a good dad is by watching Bonanza. ;)

Furiousball: Thanks!

Jay: Exactly: Screw playing with blocks and torturing our cat. There's football to obsess on!

Abbagirl74: That's not a bad idea... Max as Spock and me as Kirk.

Knight: I was either Batman, or a cowboy. I like to keep things simple.

Leighann: Don't leave out alcohol, but not for Max obviously. ;)

Guilty: Thanks!

Maddy: Please don't tell me that. I've been trying to slam on the breaks, but time won't stop. ;)

Mike: Thanks pal!

Whim: Thanks. I'm having a hard time swallowing it too.

Biddie: Whoops. Didn't mean to leave you out of the rotation! Of course you're always invited to the party!

By my calculations, that means that Captain Corky is one year older, too. And in 6 months, the ol' Corkster will be a year and a half older.
Right?

I still think Captain Corky is cuter than a young John Travolta, even if he is a year older.

Yea, you have to calculate months up through the 24th. Then, it's two years, two and a half, etc.

This is becuase that is how we Mommies are able to comment on the level of development of your child.

"Oh, how old? And, he's walking/talking/[add verb here] already???

;-D Happy Tuesday! [Happy BIG birthday!!!]

COWBOY! COWBOY! SUPERMAN COWBOY! Or COWBOY SUPERMAN!!!! Yippie-I-O-Kay-Ay!

Happy Birthday to Max! I was relieved to stop counting months too...they go by so frickin fast. By kid #2 I cut it short and just said "almost one" for months 9-11.

Leslie: I think you may be on to something. Maybe I'll start telling people I'm one. ;)

Farmer*swife: I see... If people ask maybe I'll just tell them that he's getting plenty of sunlight and water. ;)

Chris H: Thanks! He had a blast!

Jerrster: I will. Everyday is better than the last. That's for sure.

captain corky said...

Melissa: My wife is really set on us going as Mr Rork and Tattoo from Fantasy Island. Maybe we'll do that. ;)

Jo: I'm so glad to hear that and Thanks! ;)

Tink: I'm always screwing with something Tink. ;)

Portia: I think I'm going to go with that plan for Max and all the other kids my wife and I plan on having.

Justin's Mom: Thanks! I can't believe how much Justin and Max have changed in one year.

Birdman: True. I think I'll run out and get one to celebrate the momentous occasion.

And I will.

Snowflake: I'll send you a whole bunch.

Happy bd little Max. Jessica had pneumonia at her first birthday party. She decided to make it a pattern and was seriously ill for every birthday for the next ten years. What's up with that. The best Halloween costumes are the ones you make. Walmart costumes itch.

His being 1 does provide for a great deal of convenience.

Cake is always good.

You should try and rotate the three potential Halloween costumes you propose here every year until he starts complaining about it.

I can't believe the kid is 1!!!! Also I'm glad you decided against clowns for parties.

One is a very important because it means greater mobility to use towards hitting more houses on Halloween. My kids are way into superheroes so I am already thinking ahead for Halloween about all of us dressing as superheroes. Even though I am normally a Marvel fan I think my kids are leaning more towards DC. So I may have to consider dressing up as either the golden age Flash or golden age Green Lantern for Halloween.
