Applesauce

If it weren't for Mr. Rogers I would have never learned how applesauce is made and then how it's processed immediately afterwards.

Sometime within the last week I've learned that PBS is taking Mr. Rogers Neighborhood off the air... permanently. I can't remember who's blog I read it on, but it was most devastating news.

I was counting on that show to teach my son.

More bad news I found out last week includes learning that Warner Bros is pushing back the date of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince to July 09.

It's fucking bullshit.

So as you can tell, last week was a very difficult week for me and I'm not sure if this week's going to be any better. It's too early to tell.

I've been down in the dumps so bad that I haven't been able to do anything but watch preseason football. It's not that I even want to watch it 24/7, it's just always happens to be on the NFL Network these days and I'm just too damned depressed to change the channel.

Mr Rogers and the apple sauce thing went way over my head. You lot get all the good TV over there.

It is bad news about Harry Potter. By the time they finish the last one Harry will have a receding hairline and a beer gut.

And why are you watching football? Shouldn't you be cheering along that Phelps guy? :)

Blimey corky, not a good start of the week eh?

But hey, once you have hit rock bottom you can only go up... unless the devil shows up with a showel. hmm.

corkster- i am so sorry about this most depressing news. it is not right. not right at all!!

Mr. Rogers practically raised me, man. and why shouldn't he raise Max too? it's wrong to take him down and put him in a corner. him and his red cardigan. that hot red cardigan.

Try to have a good week, Corky! just TRY damn you!! that's all i ask!:)

Pre-season football? I think you better make an appointment with a professional. No Corky! Not that kind of professional!

that's a shame, i hope some kid channel picks him up in syndication

Mr. Rogers taught me everything! Otherwise I wouldn't know how crayons are made, which shoe goes on first, how to make creepy puppet voices. They can't do this!

Mr. Rogers was unbelievably cool. For some reason anyone that comes along today and talks and acts like him I immediately assume is probably a perv. But, not Mr. Rogers. He was the real deal. You'll have to buy some DVDs for Junior to watch and learn from.

Aw damn... I loved Mr. Rogers. He was so calm - remember The Electric Company? That shit freaked me out - lights flashing, people jumping up and down and yelling - it was like a bad trip. But Mr. Rogers was always laid back - I liked that.

Whatever you do, just promise to never let Corky Jr. watch Barney, ok?

I have an image in my mind now of you and Max, slouched down together on the couch, passing the applesauce spoon back and forth between you, eyes staring at the football on TV, both too depressed to do much else...

I wonder how a very handsome, young Captain Corky would look with applesauce on his chin...

(Hope that cheers you up!)

those mother humpers better not push it back!!!! I want some proof it's not coming out in November. hehehehe

I can't say I'm exactly saddened to learn that Mr. Rogers is going bye-bye. Those puppets freaked me out, especially the girl one with short hair and was super cranky.

I am sad, however, to learn about Harry Potter. Not only are there no more books to read, but I have to wait almost a whole year before I can watch a horrible adaptation of the book. Boo, I say. Boo.

but...Mr Rogers wore cardis....eeeewwww... snap out of it Corky, there is football to be watched!!!!!

you just ruined my day Corky! No potter until next year! I'll never make it. Must read the books and watch all the movies over again to tide me over.

I think that I cried when Mr. Dressup died..it was in 2001. I felt like I knew him. MInd you, for the first 20 ish years of the show he had a kid named Casey and his dog, Finnegan living in a tree house in his back yard..I mean, wtf? Does this kid have parents? And if he does, why is he always asking Mr.D for permission to do stuff? If Dressup is his dad/guardian, then why is in a teee in the yeas?
So many questions....
Now, what were you talking about?

I am hanging out badly to see the next HP flick too!!

Tod: I've had enough of that Phelps guy to last me three lifetimes.

Crashie: Good news, the devil never came and my spirits are now soaring.

Katie: I'm doing much better now. I think today is going to be a beautiful day in the neighborhood

Dana: Less than two weeks and I'll never have to look at another preseason football game until next August. Yippie!

Furiousball: That would be cool. Maybe TBN will pick up Mr. Rogers and thy can slip him in right after Davie and Goliath. That would

captain corky said...

Knight: Life just isn't fair sometimes...

Sunshine: Don't worry, the kid from the buss is going to rot in hell.

Jay: True! Anyone who acts or dresses like Mr Rogers today would be classified as a text book pedophile.

Fiwa: I'll do my best but Barney's influence over the young is extremely powerful stuff.

Leslie: LOL! Great imagination.

captain corky said...

Anon: Me too. Captain Corky didn't start eating applesauce until 2007. ;)

Burfica: The Bastards did push it back. Visit the official site and then you can join me in a good cry.

Christie: J.K. said that she may right about another character 10 years from now. At least that gives us something to look forward too. ;)

DJ Kirkby: I think I'm ok now. A couple of beers did the trick. ;)

Terri: I'm on the last book right now. Reading really can be fun. ;)

Biddie: I actually know someone that lived in a tree house. The guy's a pretty big freak. LOL

Cazzie: If we all stick together we'll make it through.

Hopefully there will be Mr. Rogers DVD's. One more thing goes down in history. I never watched the applesauce thing. There's still Sesame Street, though!

I'm gonna admit something here. Be ready...I've never seen a Harry Potter movie. OK, I said it. I feel much better now.

Your son gets cuter every day!

Portia said...

If it helps we could all sing to you ...it's a beautiful day in the neighborhood, it's a neighborly day in the beautyhood...

If not, there's always next week:)

I can't believe that about Mr. Rogers!!! That's ridiculous--that is a great show. My favorite was when they went to the crayon factory.

Hopefully the blogger who wrote the Mr. Rogers shit is, like myself, a liar. Those puppets were weird, but I can't think of any other children's show hosts I'd trust leaving my nonexistent children with, except for Friendly Giant. FG taught me the value of rearranging furniture for guests, and I still change my cardigan and shoes when I enter the house thanks to Mr. Rogers. Also... is there any more mellow show, other than Bob Ross?

The only good thing that has come out of Harry Potter being moved to next summer was the true understanding of greed when I my daughter and I were talking about the preceived financial impact of the movie opening next summer. She asked me, "Just how much money does a person need?"
good girl

You should have come to P-Town with me. That would have taken your mind off of our rapidly vanishing childhoods, and replaced those thoughts with bittersweet nostalgia for late nights, scored booze, and easy townie girls.

lol, I've been watching, or "listening to on Satellite radio" rather, Pre-season football, my Titans are not doing too bad. I must remember, it's just pre-season though... I'm sure they'll screw it all up by the time it means anything.

Poor Corky!! Stop being down in the dumps man!! :) We count on you!

How did you ever find anything to watch aside from the Olympics?

Fred Rogers was a good man. I guess that eventually everyone gets cancelled once they are dead. ;)

Holy Applesauce, Corky! Are you coming back????

Anonymous said...

If Corky isn't coming back, we can hold a Labor Day Weekend Blog.a.thon on the Blog for him.

Wanna?

Let's do it!

Nothing against you, but if my hubby only watched football, he'd better go to another room and leave my TV alone. Or he'd better find a new wife. I'd be the really depressed one with only football 24/7!

Hi Corky,
I see that you are another blogger listed among the missing. I hope that you. Max, and Allison are well. (I am also missing your regular commentathon.0
