Barbecue

Back in the old days when I was a youngin, Home Box Office was the only game in town. Every kid in town would come into school Monday morning, brainwashed from the weekend programming offered by HBO. There were plenty of seedy movies on at 3:00 am on Friday and Saturday nights. Movies like Fast Times at Ridgemont High, and Valley Girl are good examples of all the wonderful programming offered by HBO back in the day. Yes, we all worshiped Jeff Spicoli, it's true. He was awesome, totally awesome, but we also had another Hero that was exclusively found on HBO during primetime, Emmett Otter.

Emmett Otter is clearly Jim Henson's finest muppet (that's obviously saying a lot). Please tell me that you have seen Emmett Otter's Jugband Christmas. The greatest Christmas special of all time! Better then Charlie Brown and the Cold and Heat Miser brothers put together. Most of the music in Emmett Otter's Jugband Christmas is fantastic, and there is no disputing the fact that Jim Henson was truly a magician. If you're the kind of person that doesn't have a soft spot in your heart for Jim Henson then I suggest you move to a mountain and start eating trash, and just to give you a heads up, you're heading straight to hell when you die.

Make sure to check out Emmett Otter's Jugband Christmas sometime this month. In the meantime please enjoy this rock video from You Tube.

Too funny! What was up with the fish? I LOVED the drummer's scream.

And how could anyone not like the Muppets? That was one of my favorite shows growing up.

I would have liked to have seen a "Jeff Spicoli Christmas"...now that would have been wicked awesome!

HBO? I think I've heard of that. I might've even seen it once. This is what happens when you grow up without cable, you're lost when people blog about cable related shows. Sigh....I do love the Muppets though. ;)

I heart the muppets.
Except for Elmo.
That thing is creepy.

You're like a muppet, sweet and huggable. I've never seen this special either, what year was it first shown? I think I might have been just starting to discover drugs and alcohol. This probably would have been great when you were tripping.

Oh I remember those days... when HBO played Dirty Dancing every afternoon at 4 o'clock. And way back in those dark ages, HBO was only one channel.

Good times, good times.

Ok, look. My wife loves this damned special almost as much as Corky, but I just never got it. The Muppets ruled, and The Muppet Show rocked. Emmett Otter? Meh. It's no Fraggle Rock.

Nonny, did you ever watch that show Dinasaurs when you were tripping? I used to watch it high in my dorm during my first freshman year.

Sanford and Son is another great show to watch fucked up.

Corky, maybe a post on best shows to watch high?

That is the CUTEST DAMN MOVIE. You just wanna cry when the mom gets all down on Emmett for using the washtub. I can remember the song "aint no hole in the washtub!" so you know that movie impressed me in a profound but innocent way... -hw

I loved this show too. Man HBO was a great babysitter. They would roll this out every Christmas and then they would bring out the cartoon Animalympics ever 4 years to go along with the Olympics. I really need to post somthing about that cartoon sometime. Their was also something called Brain Games as well. As for the late night movies you can't leave out The Last American Virgin.

Whoaaa... I just read Matt's blog, something about his favorite love movie this time of year and started thinking about Emmett Otter, because that's my favorite movie this time of year. Then I went to your blog and just scrolled through and saw the words "Emmett Otter". SCARY. I swear I hadn't seen it before and subliminally just thought about it. I LOVE that movie. I need to get it on dvd.
On another note, I made my ex get me Fraggle Rock from Netflix and I watched about 10 minutes of it and realized, unless you're 6 it's really just not as fun as I remembered it to me. Too much singing.
