Thanksgiving Day 2007
Labor Day seems like it was just yesterday and yet here we are and it's already Thanksgiving Eve Day. It's a very busy day for a lot of Americans. Some people will be driving, some will be flying, some people will be cooking, and cleaning. Me? I'll be watching TV and spanking my bird.
Well... not all day. I still have to go shopping. Yes, I'm one of those assholes who waits until the Day before a holiday to do his grocery shopping. I hope I don't get into a brawl with some senile old lady over the last bag of flower this year.
But what I really want to write about today is how grateful and thankful I am this year. I've said it many times and I'll say it a million more before it's all said and done, this has been the best year of my life. Here's a brief explanation, but I think most of you know who, what, where, and why this has been such a great year for us.
I'm really looking forward to spending tomorrow with my wife and son while we watch the parade and eat cinnamon rolls and drink coffee. Then we cook, and then we go over to Allyson's Mom and Dad's house for food, drink, football, miracle, and expanding.
But while I'm doing all that we'll also be celebrating the official start of the Holiday season here on the log with the traditional Corky's Thanksgiving Day/Weekend Comment Parade. That's right folks, I'm also thankful for all of the wonderful comments I hope to receive. I want to know everything... What are you grateful for? What are you watching on TV? How many drinks have you had? Who's driving you crazy? What's your all time favorite drug? Is the Christmas tree up yet? What are your Thanksgiving traditions? Anything and everything goes!
PS All my friends from other countries and planets are encouraged to celebrate Thanksgiving with Corky and the Gang too. I wouldn't have it any other way. ;)

didn't you have deviled eggs??? what kind of thanksgiving doesn't have deviled eggs?????
We spent the day with loved ones and ate way too much food. played games and ate more food. Got up at the ungodly hour of 3am this morning to shop but was well worth it how is your holiday? Tree hopefully goes up tomorrow. Where are pics of baby Max?
I went shopping this AM and it was only 11 degrees at the time. Of course I was not the type that waited outside too long. I didn't need anything, but thought what the heck.
ARKANSAS 50
LSU 48
Just thought I'd update you on that score.
Arkansas beat LSU in 50-48 in 3 OTs!
Very exciting huh?
OBTW, That was the NUMBER ONE RANKED LSU that Arkansas beat.
How bout those HOGS??!!??
I am extremely thankful for the completion of the Dan Ryan construction. The Dan Ryan is one of the major interstates in the Chicago area and leads to I-57 South. For those of us who need to travel south, the last two years have been a real pain. I was super glad for the completion the two times I have driven it this week.
You know how you have a thing for Miracle on 34th Street? That is how I feel about White Christmas. It was just on ABC Family tonight. So exciting!!! I love the songs from that movie.
I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving, the first with Max!
Ooohh i just love Deviled eggs. None at my haliday get together nither.
I'm back, it's late, I'm stuffed, but it's a good misserable.....
I didn't make much deviled eggs tonight, cuz the big platter is for tomorrow.....
but I did make 20 deviled eggs......
between three of us, we ate every last one!!!!
Don't have alot of comments in me tonight.....

have a good night cork!!!!
you to mrs. Log!!!!!
nighty night baby Max!!!!!
sweet dreams and lots of angel kisses.
Bonnie: I hope you got lots of rest yesterday. I didn't do too much yesterday. I went out one or twice, but for the most part I laid around. It was nice. I plan on doing more of the same today. ;)
Her: Hope you had pleasant dreams.
Dana: But Sears is having a 10 percent off of 10 percent sale from 7 to noon today. Today being Saturday I think. You're not going to stop everything you're doing to go to it. LOL
Burfica: No deviled eggs, sorry. We did have man-n-cheese though. Yum!
Marykay: I'll post a pic of him real soon. Glad you go some serious shopping done. ;)
Nikki: 11 degrees... now that's more like it! I love cold weather this time of year. I won't be ready for Spring until February or March.
Jay: Sweet! What a crazy, crazy year. Do you think it's time for a playoff? Or should we just guess who's the best team in college football?
Just be glad you don't have to drive through PA to often. That state can't get their shit together when it comes to road construction.
Ashley: If you like Bing Crosby movies I highly recommend you check out Holiday Inn when you get a chance. It's a great flick!
Gina: It was really good and the food was great! Max had a blast too. ;)
Thesuitcase: I've never really liked them that much, but a lot of people do.
Burfica: Thanks for stopping in and the warm wishes. A comment-a-thon just wouldn't be the same with out you. ;) Enjoy dinner number 3 tonight. Yum! More food. ;)
It snowed last night here in Omaha. But, it's almost all melted off now.
To answer your question, obviously we need a playoff in college football. But, since we don't have one, the ARKANSAS RAZORBACKS are the best team in all the land.
/for today anyway. ;-)
#6 Damn, I gotta step up my game! This is outta control.
#7 in my own defense though, I did think I was coming down with strep throak yesterday.
#8 Amazingly, I slept most of the day and made a complete recovery by nightfall.
#9 Which is a good thing, because we're celebrating my husband's birthday this weekend. And he wants to go to the antique mall!
#10 Thank god for whatever smart person decided they should sell old action figures from star wars at the antique mall. I want to hunt that person down and give them a big kiss.
#11 Now I'm off to drink some more holiday coffee, and eat the cinnamon rolls we did not eat thanksgiving morning, because I made Cherly's pineapple bake instead. Happy day, and I'll be back later. Lovins - fiwa
Hey Corky,
Commenting seems to be a little slow. I guess folks are either shopping, sleeping, or watching football. Who do you like in the West Virginia/UConn game? Did you see the Arkansas/LSU game? That was exciting, and I do not even like football.
gobbles!!! post gobbles and beer!
always,
Crusty~
Oh yeah, I like Ashley's comment..I do agree on the Dan Fry-an finally being finished!! WHat a pain in the ass that was..
lady K, Capt do you mind if I reply to someone here? I think your comment was hilarious!!!!!
Saturday and it feels like I've woken up to a saturday everyday since wednesday-NO I'm NOT complaining, just simply explaining that I think I know how Bill Murray felt in GROUNDHOG DAY!!
OHGOSH, LSU lost..crazy!
Love Actually-GREAT GREAT FLICK!!
We're doing the post holiday habit:
Chicago Style Pizza
Bruce Willis and his sneering liners in the Die hard movie (new one) and some Bud...our beer of choice..next to whatever someones hands us at our fellow friends house.
TOo long of a ramble comment, I should have broken it up a bit.
BUT! I think I shall return...after drinking a beer or two, or maybe some Cakebread wine! That stuff is awesome!
Always,
Crusty~
Hey...
Happy Saturday evening. Today was more relaxing....I love relaxing and working on my tivo. :)
It was 65 on Thurs...now it's 30 degrees. Nice drop..huh? I know you like that cold but really...to drop 35 degrees overnight is a bit much.
i would like to apologise for nearly forgetting to call today, i can blame it on being busy, but i haven't been busy! i could blame it on being poorly, but i haven't been poorly!
but i will just be honest with you Corky, i have been lazy! promise never to be lazy during Corksy commentathons again
am i forgiven?
you still my friend right?!
The Christmas Tree is now up here! It looks nice too. My brother in law just bought it yesterday at Home Depot.
Now it's time to go out for a nice steak dinner and go look at some Christmas lights.
holy crap...over 250 comments...y'all don't mess around do ya...lol.
Good Night Corky...see you tomorrow.
#12 You're over 250 comments. What's the record so far?
#13 Sorry that I've been slacking on my comments today, but we did spend the entire day shopping. I got treasures!
#14 And I would like to point out that you have been very lax on new pictures of the cutest baby in the universe recently. Let's get going!
had a good dinner last night, cooked today and went to the aunt and uncles and had an awesome dinner. Played dominoes, and now I'm way to tired to do the comment thingie. I'll try to be back tomorrow.
Thought I should make an appearence on the final day of the comment train weekend! I'm quite impressed by the dedication of your readers and hope you hit comment #300 by the end of the day!
Good morning Corky
300 comments...piece of cake.
#15 I'm on day three of drinking the coffee I'm not supposed to be drinking. It_just_so_good! No bad side effects so far, maybe all that's gone away?!
Kansas lost last night. Stupid heads don't know how to tackle in their biggest game of the year. Mizzou deserved the win.
Big shake ups at the top of the BCS this week.
#16 I found a copy of The Long Winter, one of the Little House on the Prairie series in the junk store yesterday, and I am consumed by it. 7 months of winter blizzards. Can you imagine. I swear it was making me cold just reading it.
Jay: I wish it would snow here today. I want to go outside and throw snowballs at cars with Max. At almost 5 months old I bet he has a killer arm.
Fiwa: Star Wars figures! Nice.
MJD: Saturday is always the slowest day of the week here on the log. Everybody's out gallivanting and what not. ;)
Crusty: I love long comments, and I can't believe this beautiful four day weekend is almost over. Rats.
Bonnie: I did a lot of relaxing yesterday and plan on doing lots more today. ;)
Unfortunately all my resting it will end abruptly at 9 tonight when I head to work.
Her: Nothing wrong with be lazing. We embrace that kind of behavior here, so of course you're forgiven. ;)
Jay: Are you going to post pics on your blog? Nothing beats a good steak!
Flake: You know how we roll around here. ;)
Fiwa: The record is over 600. I don't think we're going to do it this time. ;)
I've got some new pics of Max coming soon.
Burfica: It's gonna take you guys till Christmas to recover from all that eaten. LOL
Eric: This long weekend has been amazing and just what the doctor ordered! Hope yours was good too.
Dana: I enjoy these comment-a-thons. They're a lot of fun. Also, it's a good way to get to know new readers. ;)
MJD: Good afternoon MJD: ;)
Fiwa: I had some good coffee this morning, and I plan on making a pot after I'm done commenting. ;)
Nikki: The BCS has been a complete mess this year. Time for a playoff system yet?
Fiwa: I think I watched that episode one or twice on TV. LOL
So, Cork....what's going on today?
going back to work tomorrow?
or did you take an extra day off to recover from the holiday?
Yes...I blatantly stole this idea from Burfica.
It seemed to work for her. ;-)
weekend about over here, so whens the next comment parade?
Pissy: Nice quite day of watching football. Just the way I like it. ;)
Unfortunately I have to work, but I did have 4 very relaxing days off so I won't complain too much. ;)
Her: The weekend is about over for me as well. The next one? In about 30 days or so. ;)
I agree the BCS is wacky. I mean, Missouri was #3 (or 4?) when they beat #2 Kansas. Now, they are #1 and Ohio state lost and are still #3. LSU is #7 after losing to unranked Arkansas. Strange days. Play offs would be cool, but I don't know how they would do them.
#17 Holy shit, I realized time is running out on me. 600?!
#18 Even worse, I just realized it dates the comments in your time zone, so if I'd waited much longer I wouldn't have made my personal goal!
#19 I am now watching one of my all-time-favorite Christmas movies, the Family Stone. Have you seen it? It's great.
#20. Captain, I do NOT want to go back to work tomorrow. Permission to be a slacker?
stopped in to see if ya hit #300...
I see ya didn't yet.....
so I thought I would help ya get closer......
I was thinking alot of you tonight....
Tonight was our Grey Cup game ...
which of course is the CFL version of the Super Bowl....
Only not as nice because we don't have.....
Gals like Janet Jackson that flash the world with her boobies......
But then again...maybe someone WOULD do that...IF...
It wasn't sooooo damn cold up here...hee hee...
okies I am going to bed now...this weekend has been a corky blogger success.....
Will be back soon to check for more pics of Max.....
Just think..1 more month til Max's first xmas....woooohooooo
Closing in on 300 here.
The Eagles are playing the Pats pretty tough!
It was OK.
What did I do? Why, I wrote. That;s what I love to do.
The highest response total I've ever seen was 272, and that was with me Singleton and Skinny all writing crazy little poems back and forth. It's fun, and it makes you learn to think fast and creative on the drop of a dime.
I'm smelling 300 comments here.
Rock on!
How's about the weather?
Did the Pat-Riots lose yet?
How about Manning? Is going to show us that records mean nothing compared to his dedication to winning the big game?
comment 299...
Who will be three hundred?
I'll let someone else have that honor.
Not!
The Eagles gave it a hell of a shot last night. Nice effort. What do they do now? Go back to McNabb?? I bet they trade him in the off season.
I need 54 points from Hines Ward tonight. Do you think it will happen??
302 comments?? WTF??
Wow, over three hundred comments! Ok, I forgot to come back (until Birdman called you a whore and it all came flooding back..) but I'm here now :)
I am grateful for GCT. I am watching Sopranos again right from the beginning. I have had no drinks today but I drank an awful lot of Champagne at my boss' 40th on Friday night. My mum is driving me a little crazy with her inability to keep secrets. My all time favourite drug is the jube, but I haven't tried opiates, so I'm still open. I'm not having a Christmas tree this year because we're going away on 27th December and I don't normally put it up will a few days before Christmas anyway. I have never celebrated Thanksgiving before so I guess you could say my Thanksgiving tradition is now commenting on Americans' blogs to wish them a happy Thanksgiving.
And... relax.
P.S. If I saw you in the street would surely recognise you. You don't see people in that costume every day!
You make me want to have a comment competition. Just because you've become so smug in your blogger fame. ;)
I'll tell U what I'm not grateful for... the speeding ticket I got in NY state when I was on my back home from Erie... bASTARDS! :0
