Grandma

We took the kid to the park a couple of weeks ago and he really had a blast. My original intention was to start his football training, but he had other ideas...

Max also went on his first plane ride to NJ last week. He was really good on the plane and did an excellent job of holding my hand and keeping me calm, especially during take off where most of my issues with with flying seem to surface. Had Max stayed home I would have snorted some Xanax and all would have been right with my world, but Max works even better than Xanax.

Less than a week before that Allyson, Max and myself drove to NJ for a few days because my Grandmother had a stroke and a heart attack. So we went up to say goodbye to her. And then after we came back Grandma died a few days later and that's why Max and I flew to NJ. So it's been pretty hectic and sad around here.

My grandmother was an amazing woman. She had a family, ran a very successful business with her father and then siblings, and after they sold the store she travelled all over the world. Grandmother was 96 when she died. She led a very full and happy life, but we are still very sad to see her go. Most of us were convinced that she was going to live forever.

So another first for Max last week was going to a funeral. I carried him as we walked behind the casket from the Hearse to the grave site and then he stood with me and our family while the prayers were said and as the coffin was being lowered in to the grave. I don't know why but it was really important to me to have him there and somehow I think he knew that. He knew grandma and she really loved him. He's actually named after her late husband my grandfather, Max.

We're back home now and things are slowly getting back to normal for us.

We miss you Grandma.

Sorry to hear about your Grandma, Corky. Max is really growing. He looks great. How is Allyson feeling? How does she feel about going to school until June 5? I think it sucks, but we don't really have a choice, do we?

Hope all is well.

J.

You know, you really don't have to wait for some life changing event to occur to blog *wink*

Sorry to hear about your grandmother. I've always found it interesting that a new life comes into the family when a cherished life leaves.

Speaking of which, how is Allyson?

Sorry to hear about your Grandmother! She was young! My Grandmother passed away about 5 years ago- she was 98! :o

And, it was probably tough for the little one to go to the funeral. I remember going to my grandfather's funeral when I was 5 yrs old, and I cried the entire time. I still remember it like it was yesterday. :(

96 active years is such a blessing, but that doesn't make the loss any easier. I'm really sorry for your loss.

SO SO sorry about your grandmother....it is amazing how little children do "get it" and manage to lift our spirit in the most sad times.

I'm very sorry Corky.
You're setting great examples for your young Max..you made your grandma smile down on you from heaven for that, I bet..
Sounds like she was a strong woman..and the pic you have of her..she doesn't look like a woman in her 90's. WOW!!
good genes!

My sympathies.

Kieth, this is Alan. Fanny was a great lady, and a thoroughgoing delight. I will miss her greatly. Her epitaph should be her favorite saying: Don't help me!" She was far abd away the most independent lady I ever met (and don't forget, I'm married to Annette).
