Grandma

We took the kid to the park a couple of weeks ago and he really had a blast. My original intention was to start his football training, but he had other ideas...

Max also went on his first plane ride to NJ last week. He was really good on the plane and did an excellent job of holding my hand and keeping me calm, especially during take off where most of my issues with with flying seem to surface. Had Max stayed home I would have snorted some Xanax and all would have been right with my world, but Max works even better than Xanax.

Less than a week before that Allyson, Max and myself drove to NJ for a few days because my Grandmother had a stroke and a heart attack. So we went up to say goodbye to her. And then after we came back Grandma died a few days later and that's why Max and I flew to NJ. So it's been pretty hectic and sad around here.

My grandmother was an amazing woman. She had a family, ran a very successful business with her father and then siblings, and after they sold the store she travelled all over the world. Grandmother was 96 when she died. She led a very full and happy life, but we are still very sad to see her go. Most of us were convinced that she was going to live forever.

So another first for Max last week was going to a funeral. I carried him as we walked behind the casket from the Hearse to the grave site and then he stood with me and our family while the prayers were said and as the coffin was being lowered in to the grave. I don't know why but it was really important to me to have him there and somehow I think he knew that. He knew grandma and she really loved him. He's actually named after her late husband my grandfather, Max.

We're back home now and things are slowly getting back to normal for us.

We miss you Grandma.

New Edition (no, not the crappy group that gave us the delightful Bobby Brown)

willSix here.

I had planned to get this post up during our blog Captain's extended hiatus (during which, I learned through my well placed sources, he and his illustrious family were extraordinarily renditioned to an undisclosed location where, instead of being waterboarded, they were stuffed with Turkish Delight, Skoal, fancy chocolates, and low grade booze. I swear to the veracity of absolutely none of this, but I'm pretty sure I dreamed it, so it's more likely true than not).

Anyhoo, I thought I'd once again hijack the Corkster's blog for my own nefarious purposes because the Six family, in an act of daring-do comparable to the feats of Captain Sullenberger, has added another hungry mouth to its clan. Her name is Maya, and she looked like this when she was born:

It's been two weeks since then, so now she mostly looks like this:

(Ok, maybe it's not as impressive as landing a commercial jet on the Hudson river, but the kid was almost nine pounds, so let's give Mrs. Six some credit)

I know what most of you are thinking: yeah, that's great willSix, but make with the ear worm, since that's all you usually do around here. Well, ask and you shall receive:

I have absolutely no idea what this video is about or who this dude is. It's pwnage, however, is beyond question.

Hotel Mousetrap

Last week a catastrophic winter storm that produced ice, snow, freezing rain, and frigid temperatures hit parts of the United States. I live in one of the states that got hit the hardest. Over 100,000 homes and businesses lost power and the total damage is still be counted. Crews from North Carolina have come in to help restore power to those who still don't have power almost a week later.

I feel very grateful and thankful that my family is safe and that we only lost power for a day.

Because we have a young son and my wife is pregnant we played it safe and got a hotel room on the day that our power went out and this is where Corky's post begins...

Question: Is it OK that i bitch about the mousetrap that I found in our hotel room? I mean we were in a nice joint, only about 120 bucks a night. I get that almost every hotel was booked in Louisville due to the damage caused by the storm, but when I pay 120 bucks a night I expect to be in a hotel that doesn't have rodent issues.

I found out about the rat deathtrap after I did some minor interior decorating for the convenience of my young son. I found it under the night stand next to the king size bed in our room. Due to the circumstances I wasn't too outraged over the mousetrap nor did I complain. I'm just glad Max didn't find it before I did.

Another reason why I wasn't too outraged over the mousetrap is because of the phenomenal HDTV that was in our room. Part of me wouldn't have minded watching the Super Bowl on that TV, but had we have had to stay in the hotel room for that long I'd be out a 1200 bucks. I could have gotten tickets to the game for that price thanks to the economy.

The last year or so has been a bit of a wild one for us and I'm beginning to understand why there are so many Bible thumpers out here.

Anyway, I would just like to thank all of you who continue to read the log and make sure to mark your calendars cause the 2009 State of the log is coming VERY SOON!
