Like A Rock

It's a sad day here in Corkyville. I just sent my 1983 Chevy s-10 to meet it's maker. Mine was a red stick shift, and had a phat custom made ladder rack. The tow truck driver who came to pick it up was eye balling the truck pretty hard. I think he might take if for himself. He probably thought I was a complete schmuck for getting rid of it. But who really cares what he thinks. Fuck him.

That Chevy s-1o got me through a really tough financial and emotional period in my life. I bought it about 6 months after I got divorced from my first wife for about 1000 bucks. Yuppies go to therapy after they get divorced. Barnswallows buy trucks, chew tobacco, and drink beer. The engine was held together with lots of duck tape, but I never really had too many problems with it until the end. I only put about 250 bucks in to it (excluding gas), and very rarely got the oil changed. Maybe twice in 4 years. A fact I'm very proud of!

I used the truck to haul ladders from paint job to paint job. My paint company was pretty successful. I only advertised about three times a year and got most of my business from Republicans. Democrats in Kentucky paint their own houses. I did pretty good but I was working 18 + hours a day with painting and my other job. I had to make a decision for the sake of my sanity, and decided to only paint for friends and really good customers.

Anyway, I haven't driven the truck since the beginning of Summer, and I was hoping to just let it disintegrate in the parking lot where I live, but Larry (The pain in ass super) told me that I was not allowed to have three vehicles, and has been annoying me to get rid of it for months. I finally did today. That truck will be missed.

The only car I was really sad to get rid of was a Corsica I had years ago. I stopped at a red light and got pounded from behind. Totalled the car and it was a great car that had another four or five good years left in it.

I wish I had a "phat rack".

My very first car was a 1983 Ford Escort, baby blue with a pink racing stripe. It had a musical box horn... which was annoying because when someone cut me off, I was forced to play the "pink panther" themesong at them. No one took me seriously on the road.
I think that's why I have road rage problems to this day.

Aw, sorry about your truck.

I am most disturbed by your feeling that the tow truck driver was judging you and your general anger over something that in all likleyhood you were making up in your head.

Oh, that is so sad! That was a cool truck.... I'll never get rid of my Buick. In fact, I'm restoring it=:)

Easy Kim Jong Ramone, obviously you've never dealt with a barnswallow before. I could see the dude getting excited as he looked over the truck, if you know what I mean.

Alicia, I used to have a 1969 dodge charger that played dixie when I honked the horn. I also used to be attached at the hip to my cousin Luke.

Mark that sucks dude, but at least you didn't get maimed.

Karma: Thanks, but I got over it 5 minutes later after I turned on the tube to an episode of Leave It to Beaver entitled, Beaver takes a Bath

Beader: I know your work. It's going to look amazing!

Hubby had had to get rid of his 1st love a couple of years back. It was the 1st car that he ever bought/rebuilt when he was 15. She was a Ford Galaxie 500 Fast back, and her name was Maybeline. Thing is, we didn't have anywhere to store her, and we couldn't afford to insure/run her any more. We also were in a tough finacial bind, so we got hosed on the whole deal when we finally did sell her. That was about 3 years ago, and Hubby just brought it up again this morning.
Point is, I know how you feel, Corky.
RIP, paint truck....

I'll be sure to pour some fine, fine Colt 45 malt liquor on the ground when I get home tonight. For your truck. And my homies.

Aw Corky. I know your pain. I get very attached to my wheels. I"ve always been like that.

And let me tell you, those early 80s S10 trucks were pretty solid little machines. My dad got stuck driving one a few years back and we often snickered and called it a Cavalier With A Box, but he had to admit, it was decent.

I drive an 89 Sierra. It's a fricking monster. I live in town. I insist on driving it so that when I move to the country I have something to bring the feed bags home with. Y'know?

(I am going to link you one of these days...)

I"m not even 100% sure what kind of car I currently drive.

Seriously.

I'm not even joking.

Hey Corky
You had to post the fact that you sent your chevy SHIT-10 to the graveyard. I was just starting to get over the fact that I sold Casper back in 05 for $500. OH WELL, see you all in the FUNNY HOUSE.

I gotta say that I feel your pain. My first truck was a 92 forest green S-10. I had to sell it with 170,000 miles on it after being unemployed (with a wife and twins) for almost a year. I sure do miss her, I mean it. I'd better go now, my eyes are watering up for some reason!!

They don't make cars/trucks like they use too.
Sorry you had to get rid of it.

Hey. Thanks for commenting on my blog. I'm gonna have to add you to my blogroll dude.

Sorry about the truck. I've never had a car that I was sorry to see go. I pretty much drove them all into the ground.

But, I probably would have kept the sweet ladder hauling rack. It might have been worth more at a recycling center than the truck. LOL

Sorry. I shouldn't make fun of the recently departed.

I am restraining from Jeff Foxworthy jokes with all my might here. Sounds a bit like my X when I divorced him (Silverado was his purchase, however, ditto on the chew and beer!).

I'll never forget my first car. It was a British racing green Triumph Spitfire convertible. I was 18 and we had had one great summer together before I foolishly drove it headlong into a taxi. :(

A moment of silence for the little red truck......LOL, we had a little red truck too, it saved our asses quite a bit. We too finally had to get rid of it about 3 years later.

Corky, I am so sorry to hear about your loss and ... oops ... scrolled down a bit too far ... there's that photo of Beyonce again ... whew ... that Beyonce is some looker huh?

So what were you talking about? You traded in your old truck for a new Beyonce?

My condolences. Being a Hoosier who works in Kain-tuh-kee, I love trucks. Truly.
May she rest in peace.

Dude...it is sad when you have to give up a favorite vehicle. It like becomes a part of you. I owned a Geo Metro for 10 years before I got rid of it. It was sad day. I feel your pain.

I too owned a Geo Metro (a convertible) as my first car. For a piece of crap, that thing was a machine that could not be killed. I sold it for 100 dollars 2 weeks before the trans dropped out of it! I miss that thing sometimes. Still the best over car in the snow...

Awww I had an s-10. Then someone wanted it more than me and took it.

But anyways, for a 1000. That's a sweet ride!
