Remember Winter?

Remember when Winter used to look like this picture? I grew up in a part of the world that had four seasons. Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall if I remember the names correctly. Each season had it's own distinct personality and there was something I liked about all four of them.

Very rarely do I see all four seasons every year like I used to. I can't help but wonder if it was something I said or did. It's not like I live in Florida or Alaska folks. In the Winter it's supposed to be cold and snow where I live, and I'm supposed to be wearing a jacket, gloves, a scarf and galoshes when I go outside. That's how I was programmed, and that's how I shop. I've wasted a lot of money in preparation for "Winter". Now where the fuck is it? I feel and look so stupid when I show up to work in my galoshes and it's in the mid 60's outside. It's ridiculous!

At this point I'd like to say goodbye and tell you that that I'm going outside to sleigh ride or have a snowball fight but instead I'm going outside to work on my base tan. Sucks.

Do I remember winter? Do I? Hell ya! The truth is, I don't care if I never see it again! I love this! I don't have a car, so waiting for the bus in a snowstorm BITES! Yeah, I like building the occassional snowman, or sliding down a hill now and again, but really, I LOVE THIS!
Sorry, Corky.

This winter is so extreme! I saw first hand the blizzard in CO, and now the wind and cold are trapped up in the North! I can't go outside because of how cold and windy it is!
I saw on the news people picnicing in Central Park yesterday!!! And, people golfing in Chicago!!!
I'm scared for what the future holds for my children and their children.

Having always lived in the South we almost never had winter like that. I've only seen a lot of snow maybe 3 times in my life. But I don't mind too much, I hate the cold. :)

Winter is my least favorite season as I'm more of a warm weather girl, but seriously, this is getting ridiculous. And Christmas???? Fuhghettaboutit, I like it with snow and pretty sparkly white everywhere you look, not with brown dead grass.
I remember those blizzards in the 70s when we'd be snowed in and not have school for three days. 2004 was the closest we've seen of anything like that around here in a long time.

I remember winter four years ago in December and January it was mild and everyone complained of it not feeling like winter. Then Febuary came and it snowed like it crazy. Unfortunately all the snow delayed us getting into our new house. So I think it just goes in cycles.

It's pretty cold here today, though this weekend it was in the 60s, which is really unusual. Scientists say it's not really global warming, just nature being temperamental. I'm not sure I believe that though.

Hi, it's 6:16pm and I'm just now getting around to commenting. I hate mondays!

that was a very informative link.

nonny--no actual scientists say that nature is just being tempermental. the actual empirical scientific data clearly shows that humans have chamged the atmosphere through CO2 emissions. bush and gop cronies who head departments without the benefit of rigorous training in the sciences are not scientists. (for example christine todd whitman as head of EPA, a lifelong politician with only a BA in government.)

metal mark: indeed, one of the earmarks of global warming is cycles. but this is still highly problematic. it is during the extremes in these cycles that natural resources are affected and when changes in ocean temp have most impact. it doesn't take much warm weather to melt the ice caps.

keep voting for bush and the neo-cons, all you red staters! good work.

Yeah.. as much as I loved wearing a t-shirt and sneaks on Saturday, I do have some concerns about the weather. And now I just read on another blog that this weather will cause us to have a bug invasion this summer.

This sucks. But make the best of it, Captain. Work on that tan, yo.

Lady K, the wonderful piece of mall art that I used for this post comes from Terry Redlin who is similar in style to Kincaid, but I like Redlin better.

Boy am I late to this thread. Well, what is there to say. Yeah, all this screwy weather...can't possibly be related to global warming and climate change. I mean, it goes beyond common sense at this point. Last year was warmest on record. It won't get any better this year, obviously. And, yes, the weather will only become more unpredictable and intense as time goes on, and yes, we are leaving the world worse off for our children and our children's children. And, no, there really isn't all that much we can do about it.

Fixing it will require large-scale governmental interventions, investment, and innovations. The sort of stuff the current administration doesn't really do. Blowing shit up? They got that down pretty pat. Using government as a force for change and improvement in the lives of its citizen? Not so much.
