Graduation Day

My wife earned her master's degree in English last week and is officially done with school (at least for right this moment). She'll be graduating with honors and I can't begin to tell you how extremely proud I am of her. This final semester has been a bit rough for her with the pregnancy and teaching two sections of English 102 and everything, but she's a real trooper that Allyson. Now all she has to do sit on the couch, get plenty of rest, and take care of me for the next two months.

For those of you that don't know Allyson is just about 8 months pregnant. A lot of books, written by spoiled American housewives, say that I should be rubbing her feet, sleeping on the couch, and doing the grocery shopping during the third trimester. But then I watch the National Geographic channel and see women from other countries, pregnant as can be, carrying 25 pound buckets of water on their heads while walking up hills barefoot in the desert. This has caused some confusion for me. If they can do it why can't she?

OK, I'm probably going to get a foot up my ass for that last paragraph, but Allyson has been cooking since she finished school. She made the best Salmon with carrots and mushrooms the other night. It definitely beats the shit out of what I've been making for the past couple of months.

Another really great weekend has come and gone. Friday night we saw Spiderman 3. Amazing affects! Saturday we avoided the Kentucky Derby and bought tons of baby clothes. Currently we are engaged in an argument about what outfit the baby is going to wear home from the hospital. I'll post a pic of the one that I want real soon. I hope ya'all had a really good weekend!

I heard mixed things about S-3. Some people are saying it isn't as good as the others. Glad you liked it.

So tell us more about these outfits!

consider this a foot up the ass for the water on the head comment ;)

lucky you that Allyson is nesting and a cookin'

and CONGRATULATIONS to Allyson! Woo hoo! What a bunch of hard work she's been through! Yippee.

Lets see this outfit, Corkster - but to be fair - maybe you ought to post Allyson's. I'm sure when she's down at the well drawin' water you can cop a quick photo ;)

Just rub her damn feet you schmuck. And seriously, you only have to do it once or twice and she'll think you're the greatest and make you more good dinners.
For real.
MAJOR brownie points.

abbagirl74: I enjoyed Spiderman 3 a lot. 2 was better plot wise but 3 was still good.

Aunt Jackie: Things are going really good. I plan to embrace every moment.

Kat: As soon as Allyson picks out her outifit I'll post a picuture of both. Then I will run a survey on the log.

Pinks: I'm enjoying the all the nesting she's been doing lately. We've had a lot of fun but it;s been a wee bit expensive.

Whimsicalnbrainpan: Thanks. I think you'll like the outfit I picked. It's pretty cute.

Sunshine: Don't tell anyone, but I have once or twice. ;)

I ignored most of the Derby festivities. I usually like to go to the parade, but the weather was so yucky, we skipped it this year. I DID see the Queen's motorcade on Friday!

I think the person who goes through all the pain of childbirth should get to pick the outfit. Mainly because I know what she's about to go through, and it won't be a walk in the park. Trust me on this one.

Congrats to Allyson for finishing her Masters. So is she going to end up going to work and Corky becoming a house husband?

That is so funny, my dadused to say the same thing about NG and what the women do when they are pregnant, and even post partum when ploughing in the field, baby on the back etc etc.
I worked until I was 8 months pregnant with all of my 4 kids. MNo use sitting around waiting for the kettle to boil!! Baby comes when it wants to. Pampering ouhta be done at any time, not just when the laydyyy uis pregnant. Looks oike she has been pampering you, OMG, I heart salmon!!

Great job Allyson and Corky does this mean you get to be Mr. Mom? Wouldn't that be cool? :o)

Congrats to Allyson! Ironically enough, I saw "With Honors" on cable over the weekend. School PLUS pregnancy sure would take it out of someone, so kudos. And the salmon sounds wonderful! Can't wait to see the new spidey...

Alicia was never really keen on wanting my son to wear a speedo home from the hospital.

She always shoots down my good ideas.

be nice too her hosehead! if you were carrying an excess amount of kicking weight you'd be cranky too. not to mention that masters thing. sheez..she must be wonderwoman

Here's my advice for the coming home from the hospital outfit.
Make sure it's a preemie sized outfit.
Babies are tiny.
My kid was 24" long and 8'12" and he STILL had to wear a preemie outfit home...

You know the whole "break my foot off in your ass" threat never made sense to me. I mean if you have a foot up your ass, it's gonna hurt, but you can get that removed by any general practioner, the person that lost the foot though, they lost a foot. I'd say it's a narrow victory for the person with the ass foot.

Congrats on the baby...and congrats to your wife! Is this your 1st??? It is so so so much fun! Your wife will need you more after the baby is born than now, save your energy for post-pregnancy!

I take it you have her mow the lawn too? ;)

i was disappointed with spider-man 3.

too much going on that it got unwieldy.

Hmmm, the salmon looks mighty tasty as well as aesthetic. Forget the 25 pounds of water on the head and rub her feet. Those women may give birth in the field and go back to harvesting the wheat right after delivery.

I got no advice here, Capt- I was pregnant twice, a grand total of 17 months, of which a total of 9 were spent on bed rest...they just couldn't wait to get out...

Biddie said...

Those spoiled American women! Look at us Canadians! Heidi had #2 on her bed...wait, notthat she HAD a #2 on her bed..she had baby number 2 at home IN bed....Not me, tho..I had lots of drugs at the hospital...

On Delivery. The first one was three weeks early and I knew nothing! about babies. Kid came home in a paper t-Shirt and a blanket. A mini crib with no sheets! I'm so the mom. I got smart with the second one. I hopped a plane and picked up a three year old, already toilet trained. :)

Congratulations to your wife. I think that i have bene to the movies once in the three years that I have had kids. I used to go like once a month.

Michael Colvin said...

Congrats to Allyson she must be a Wonder Woman to do all that, keep you under control and be pregnant!

Damn...now I have that WW theme playing in my head.

Big Pissy said...

Congrats to Allyson!

That is so awesome!

Don't tell her I said this, but what about all those Chinese women who just squat in the rice fields and give birth?

I have no personal knowledge of this, being a Latina and all...I think "my" people probably squat in the field while picking tomatoes...but I've read of it.

Just sayin..... ;-)
